Senator De Lima Vs. The Culture Of Self-Righteousness In The Philippines

leila_de_lima(3)

Well ladies and gentlemen, the cat is now out of the bag and Senator De Lima now faces not just charges of fraud but also, apparently, adultery.

Now, I’m going to admit that yes, I do dislike Senator Leila De Lima. I find her mishandling and misuse of “human rights” disgusting. I find the way she protects the rights of criminals as both unjust and cruel to victims of rape, robbery and murder. I find her pompous attitude and self-important behavior pretentious and pathetic.

However, while her acts of adultery are indeed off-putting, I would have to say that it is a more personal issue than some of her more prominent illegal and unethical activities such as her involvement with drugs and misuse of human rights. While it’s also true that her recent trysts are indeed associated with drug syndicates and her relationship with a married man is deplorable, I still think that it seems slightly less relevant than the other, more important issues that surround her.

I’m not writing this article to defend Senator De Lima, mind you. I am however writing this to call out the attitude of various Filipinos who are criticizing the senator’s sexual practices and are actively demonizing her. I mean yes, adultery is indeed unbecoming of her title as a senator, I still think it is not the place of our equally adulterous and malicious countrymen to call her out. All things considered, I can probably guess that Senator De Lima isn’t the only bigwig in the Philippines who’s guilty of adultery. To call her out as the only immoral politician in the Philippines is both unfair and hypocritical beyond measure. Heck, even our President, Rodrigo Duterte is willing to admit that he himself is a womanizer and barely even brings up Senator De Lima’s dalliances with her driver and simply focuses on the woman’s opposition against him and his administration.

To be honest, as I’ve already said, I don’t like Senator De Lima and I’m pretty much glad that her title and actions as a prominent member of the CHR or Commission on Human Rights is now being questioned. But I’m none too fond of self-righteous people who seem to think that Senator De Lima is the only prominent politician with an immoral background and as if her acts of adultery alone are what call into question her activities as a senator.

I must say that while her acts of adultery are indeed immoral and pathetic in some ways, I do not think it is our place, the common Filipino people, to judge her. If anything, we should judge her for her corrupt activities as a senator which has, time and time again, protected criminals from justice. If anyone has a right to judge the senator, it should only be her family and the family of the man she had had an affair with as we have little business when it comes to her personal life.

Let’s learn to focus on what’s important and learn to put aside prejudices and irrelevant issues…

  1. You mean a culture of “arrogance,” “blame game,” and “patay malisya”/”dedma” (no malice). Award the Philippines an Olympic medal, a Miss Universe title, and a boxing championship belt, and all the motherfucking Filipinos will hold their heads up high and post “Pinoy Pride” all over the Internet. Talk about graft and corruption, poverty, illegal drugs, stealing, and murders, and everything wrong about the Philippines, and the same motherfuckers are pointing fingers at each other.

  2. these drug lords and pushers addicted their victims without human rights. now their protectors want human rights for them. who is de lima’s protector? there must be someone.

  3. how can the pilipinos get even with her for what she did allowing illegal drugs to destroy the nation. show her sex video to the nation, it’s not even enough.

    1. What evidence do u have that she did any of what she is accused of?
So far all i have seen is a smear campaign with zero, ZERO actual evidence.
Or do we take the word of a 71 year old senile dinosaur whom, throughout his entire political career has done the same thing to every single person that stands up to him and calls him what he is?

No its a dave and goliath momment and u do not even know which side u r standing for.
Talk about wool over your eyes.
Trial by media with zero proof.
      Yeah, ofcourse she is guilty.
Of trying to stand up for the philippine people.

Do you really think a woman with so many ties to drug cartels would make herself a target?
      Wake up.
You are backng the wrong horse.
You should be defending her, not screaming for the rope.
The only, only thing she is guilty of is standing her ground and trying to expose the immortality of your current idol.
      Honestly.
You call yourself intellectuals, seem to think you are in the know.
You have taken the lie hook, line and sinker and swam up to the boat and demanded more.
Im shocked and amazed every single day i read this and some of the comments here.
      De lima is innocent.
      How do i know?
      Innocent and until proven guilty.

The only thing she has proven.
Duterte will sink to any level to destroy his enemies.
She is one of the few people in this country with actual balls.
      U go girl

      Interesting article op.

        1. How?
She is innocent until proven.( read PROVEN) guilty.

How can i eat my words?
          Has their been a trial?
          No.

        2. @VOCUCKS:

Nope, instead of facing the charges against her, she plays drama queen just to gain sympathy.

Or maybe you don’t even follow about this woman’ crapfest and other shenanigans for the last 5 years.

      1. how could i defend de lima against evidence on her partying with drug lords at the bilibid prison. the picture is authentic. the pixels (squares) were not broken so it’s not photoshopped. de lima is guilty to the eyes of the nation. turn to next page please, who’s de lima’s protector.

      2. You’re seriously lost, due to the misguided, Yellow Dye #5 game, you have allowed yourself to buy into. You (like so many others) whine about evidence? Just look around the nation. Look at how every one of these shysters have, for over 30 years now, brought the country to the brink of irreversable destruction.

There’s all the evidence anyone needs.

        1. [Revised]

Unfortunately, the majority of media-brainwashed Filipinos today still believe the numerous high-rise buildings, mega shopping malls, and widespread consumerism throughout the entire archipelago is a positive sign of progress when, in fact, the opposite is true.

Progress can only be seen among the big Chinese-Filipino businessmen and their well-bribed politicians, who now own and control most of the wealth in this country, while the masses is forced to engage in feudalistic-style economy of Overseas Foreign Workers (OFWs), low-paying “contractual” work force, and participate in illegal and unethical activities in order to survive.

This is the harsh reality of life in this oligarch-driven society.

        2. These fams are asking for evidence yet they never did reality check in order to see through it.

I remember the time when I told them that there was electoral fraud while one guy is asking for evidence yet told him about my relatives in Basilan calling my cousin about the fact that they didn’t voted because they told them that ‘they already did’; the ballots are pre-shaded, which is in favor of the candidates of the LP. What’s utterly disrespectful is that the guy said this:

I have never seen video evidence and ill say again.
Everyone these days has a smart phone…yet no one who claimed there were pre shaded ballot papers thought to record their claims?
Honestly this really is a nation of children.

And he never showed up when I told him that a day later, that incident is all in the news. And even the COMELEC didn’t even take action due to one Yellowtard sitting as chairman.

If those claims are not ‘true’, do they have the nerve to call me and told the whole story? Wow, what a way for people to contradict themselves.

        3. In 1993, President Fidel Ramos suspended Salapuddin for 60 days on charges of “serious misconduct, oppression, gross negligence, abuse of authority, dereliction of duty and maladministration,” one of many powerful politicians targeted in what was considered a crackdown on corruption and nepotism.[4]

          Thats your source?

A former guerrilla from the MNLF?
          Sounds like he is legit
          Yeah. Ok bro.
          Nice one.

        4. @TheVoiceofCUCKS:

You just rather focus on something superficial rather than the whole context of the article? That’s shallow thinking.

Either you are missing the point on you’re just TROLLING. Nice one BTW.

        5. A former guerrilla from the MNLF?
          Sounds like he is legit
          Yeah. Ok bro.
          Nice one.

You forgot to add: aside from being a former MNLF rebel, he served as congressman of Basilan for 3 terms.

If you think posting half-truths is also stating facts, then you’re shooting yourself in the foot.

        6. So u r saying because he was a filipino politian he would not lie or be corruptible?
Or are just the ones that can not be trusted are the ones who’s stories do not fit your narrative?

Yes it made an article with much speculation and no facts other than heresay.
An article or speculation is news…but it does not make it fact and comlec certainly did not find substantial evidence to back the accusation.
          So its just speculation.

        7. So u r saying because he was a filipino politian he would not lie or be corruptible?
Or are just the ones that can not be trusted are the ones who’s stories do not fit your narrative?

An article or speculation is news…but it does not make it fact and comlec certainly did not find substantial evidence to back the accusation.
          So its just speculation.

If we go by your logic, everytime you’re posting an article is all speculation and not facts either. See what I did there?

Salapuddin served as a congressman in Basilan and he made that claim, you said it was speculation. But it was no speculation when my relatives told their account of that story; their vote is on Duterte but in Election Day, May 9, they never had the chance to vote when they were told by the election officers that ‘they were already voted’. They were surprised about what they heard and they found out that the votes were counted yesterday, May 8, which is the day before Election day.

And what’s really surprising is that the votes are pre-shaded and most of them are in favor of the Liberal Party candidates 90%. The current governor and vice-governor of Basilan are from the Liberal Party. And you’re trying to tell me that all of this is speculation?

Of course, the COMELEC wouldn’t even bother to see this due to one Yellowtard sitting as chairman. If you’re familiar with Andy Bautista, he’s a Noynoy appointee. So he will just ignore it instead. You try to connect the dots. Oh wait, you won’t bother to do that anyway because everything that doesn’t fit to your agenda or personal convenience is just speculation. You just rely on the Yellow media too much.

        1. @ Dio
So where is your proof of this?
U have proof of electoral fraud?
          No. No u do not.
Problem is when you make an accusation yet provide zero proof it your statement that is the contradiction.

        2. @VoiceofHATE

So where is your proof of this?
U have proof of electoral fraud?
          No. No u do not.
Problem is when you make an accusation yet provide zero proof it your statement that is the contradiction.

          Grasping on straws, are we?

Do you think I would voice this out if there is zero proof? Of course not, right?

Seems you’re not even watching the news when the pre-shaded ballots issue was reported. It is the same situation that my relatives in Basilan stated when they called my cousin. They won’t bother to tell him if they went to the voting precinct and voted for their respective candidates.

And like I stated, even the COMELEC wouldn’t even bother on this since they have one Yellowtard as chairman. Why would there be an electoral protest in the first place?

Unfortunately, you REACT on this so that means you’re butthurt. You are driven with hate for one tainted surname and you never use reason, at all.

        3. Wheres your proof?
Or are u one of those people that think accusations equal fact.

I have relatives that swear to me they have seen a wakwak.
I guess that must be true too

        4. Wheres your proof?
Or are u one of those people that think accusations equal fact.

I have relatives that swear to me they have seen a wakwak.
I guess that must be true too

Still missing the point. My relatives in Basilan won’t bother to call my cousin if they were allowed to vote. But they won’t.

You just love to whine about evidence but instead, you love to appeal to emotion rather to face it. Too bad you don’t even realize it.

        5. So your relatives, told your cousin who told you?
And this is the source of your information?

        6. So your relatives, told your cousin who told you?
And this is the source of your information?

If this wasn’t true, they would never told him. A day later, the pre-shaded ballots fiasco is in the news. Or maybe you never watch it since you are fixated on too much hate or you just don’t care about it.

  4. Sorry Grimwald , much as I would like to sympathize with DeLima, and that who are we to judge; I can’t side with her mainly because of her arrogant attitudes; her as if she’s immaculate way of describing herself; and the way she disrespect our President ; her attitude of telling first to the media the issues she’s into. She started it all first, and when the President gave her the dose of her medicine, she cried foul and personal.
She’s a lawyer and lawyers says that, before suing someone in court , you must go to court with clean hands. Is she that clean and immaculate?
Sorry, we the people, I for one, I can see her arrogance, pride , and being self righteous. So how can I sympathize with her…eh ang
Angas ng kanyang dating… Lain pud ang Arrive niya .

    1. Yes, but what I am saying is that we should refrain from resorting to dishonorable methods. I won’t hit her below the belt, but I’m willing to hit her everywhere else.

      1. A lot of desperate men have probably hit her below the belt already; but, damn, how they managed to get past that butt ugly face must have taken a lot of effort on their part.

      2. She does not deserve a Fair treatment. Remember what she did to Pres Gloria Arroyo preventing to have medical treatment abroad without Hold Departure Order or Arrest Warrant. Her Demonizing the late CJ Corona. Now that she got a douse of her own medecine she cried foul. What a Hypocrite. These Yellows think that the are Above the Law.

  5. “… and Senator De Lima now faces not just charges of fraud but also, apparently, adultery.”

Are you kidding me? Is adultery really a crime in PH? Since when does a government is allowed to peek in my bedroom? What happened to free will and privacy? Sex is something between 2 people where the government should never interfere.

Its more fun in the Philippines!!!

    1. It was not the govt who filed the adultery case but the wife of the driver. Of course its a crime, not only here but most religious countries. When were u born?

      1. NF,
so that means your country doesn’t have any case of teenage pregnancies and have no cases of HIV/AIDS ?!

If adultery is a crime its impossible to enforce it unless you want a cop in every bedroom. And again, no government is allowed inside any bedroom. Hence, its stupid law. Religious or not religious. So far for seperation between state and religion.

        1. uhm there is an adultery law in the ph. and thw wife of the driver can file a case.

why, robert? in the US, the politicians bedroom is spared from the police?

        2. Rigz,
I dont know about the US of fucking A but in my country adultery is not a crime for the simple fact that sex is something between 2 people whether they are married (to others) or (one being single and the other being married) not.
Only rape and sex with minors is a crime (and child pornography).

        3. You mean your wife cannot take any sort of legal action towards you and you mistress if you were ever found out to have commited adultery?

          Serious question btw.

        4. MR,
“You mean your wife cannot take any sort of legal action towards you and you mistress if you were ever found out to have commited adultery?”

That is correct. I wont go to jail. What she can and will do is file for a legal divorce (or she can just decide to pack her bags and leave and months later start a relationship with someone else and get (legal and legitimate) kids anew) and within 3 months we are divorced. But we can divorce for lesser circumstances. Just the fact that the love is gone or that it (the marriage) is not working anymore is enough to get a divorce.

BTW: also women do commit adultery, so you could have reversed the question.

        5. MR,
I have learned that in case of a (legal) seperation and/or anullment in PH, kids are assigned to the mother.
If that is true, I consider that as yet another stupid law or rule.

A judge (in case of a divorce) in my country will assign the kids to that party (mother or father or maybe even a 3rd party) which is in the best interest of the kids.
Whats the point of assigning the kids to a low income or non-income mother? That is not in the best interest of the kid(s)!
Its even irresponsible of a judge to assign a kid to such a party.

    2. @Robert Haighton I know you’re going to love this. Adultery is defined as “committed by a married woman who engages in sexual intercourse with a man other than her husband.”

Married men having mistresses is an accepted part of the culture, but when women do it, it’s considered dangerous as it’s destabilising to the family.

There’s also the infamous Article 247 of the Revised Penal Code that permits husbands to kill their wives (not the other way round) if they catch them in the act, and kill the person they are sleeping with.

The only punishment is that they can no longer live within 25km of their old home, and that’s believed to be more for their own protection from vengeful relatives than anything else.

This also applies to parents who catch their daughter cheating on her husband. Obviously you would just kill her, right?

      1. Dave,
I advocate and support this definition bec it is unbiased and gender free:
“The term adultery refers to sexual acts between a married person and someone who is not that person’s spouse.”

“Obviously you would just kill her, right?”
Now, why would I do that? Probably she was physically and sexually dissatisfied with the sexual relationship she had. Maybe she wanted/needed anal sex, oral sex or more sex. And if the male is unable to give her that, I can very well imagine she will look for that elsewhere. The grass is always greener elsewhere. In short: No, I wont kill her bec it was my stupidity not to accommodate her in her needs. In short #2: I was/am a failure. So why should I punish her for my failure?

      2. Dave,
what you describe is for me the Eastern version of Sharia Law. I call that Middle Age practises.

But hey, what I always say here is: ‘different markets, different products’.

      3. Dave,
If I want to cheat and not getting caught, I will not cheat in my own home but in a hotel or cheap motel or at work or in the back seat of a car.

How the hell is it possible for parents to catch the adulterer? Do they have a key of the house?
Boy oh boy, that is really impossible in my country bec married couples never live in the same house (very often not even in the same city/village/town) as the parents. Ever heard of privacy?

  6. Sure, De Lima isn’t the only bigwig that committed adultery and it’s really not our place to condemn what she does in her own bedroom. But putting a holier-than-thou attitude while you have committed several sins of your own warrants ridicue. She has every right to criticize Duterte, but she couldve done it without the holier-than-thou attitude.

  7. De Lima is a member of the Philippine Bar. She practices, as a Lawyer and was a Secretary of Justice. Her Toy Boy diver is married. The case of immorality is there. She could be Debarred.Any government official who is immoral is subject to administrative charge.

De Lima was shown in the photo and video, partying with Drug Lords. What was she doing there with the Drug Lords? Bilibid Prison became a five star Hilton Hotel of the Drug Lords. It also became a Shabu Mfg. Co. It was an armory and a bank, during her term.

A video is there showing, she and her married Toy Boy driver having sex!

Bilibid prison was her responsibility… Aquino and other high government officials involved are also responsible.

YellowTards are on the offensive to defend DE LIma. However, her case cannot be defended. There are too many GLARING evidences on her affiliation with the Drug Lords and her immorality with her Toy Boy, driver lover.

    1. Anyway, De Lima has a new Toy Boy, named :Warren Cristobal. Somebody will produce a sex video, with her and Warren having sex.

This will be a double whammy on De Lima. “Makati pa ang Bruha, ang tanda na niya, gustong mga bata na Sex Toy Boy niya!”

Any YellowTard want to defend her? We will produce her sex videos in Court. The Judge and the people in the Court will enjoy a good Sex Video! Titled: “De Lima Kama Sutra” !

      1. not just that. any house members who will defend de lima should get a citizen’s arrest kick ’em out. the people are the bosses now. duterte is the general. people will not be satisfied till they see de lima behind bars. we now proceed to phase2 on war against drugs. find de lima’s protector.

  8. I don’t like De Lima either. Apart from that lousy campaign ad, she stinks of trapo to the high heavens. She had a lousy record at DOJ. But to top it off, she has foisted the indelible image of herself having sex on the public. Ugh. Eeewww. (horse whinny)

        1. Well Manila Times is into “shock and awe” nowadays. OK. Let’s put a README WARNING there –> Click at your own risk (loss of libido).

That rainbow colored design is really quite nationalistic / ethnic Ifugao in taste though – to say the least.

  9. Some of the posts here are so head-fucked that I don’t want to reply.

    Proof you want? Evidence?

    Are you dumb assholes blind?
    And deaf?

    …and mentally challenged!

    Fucking yellow numb-nuts!

    1. The world works on what u can prove. Not whhat you accuse.

How can wanting due process and solid proof someone is corrupt before convicting them.
I guess you are new to mindinao politics.
This will be the show for the nexr 6 years.
      .
She is innocent until proven guilty.

      1. For the Yellow Party, it’s just the opposite: “Guilty until proven innocent.” And you need the media to do the dirty work.

I remember the time that former president Arroyo was caught and put into jail w/o any warrant of arrest. And De Lima is the DOJ secretary during that time and she’s Noynoy’s lapdog. But of course, there is the this kind of thinking: “When someone was put behind bars that means he/she’s guilty.”

Or don’t tell me you’re fine with that.

        1. i do not think i have ever followed the yellow party.
          Didnt u all want change?
But all u r saying is this camp is doing the same dirty tactics of the previous administration.
So u r saying that the same tactics which were bullshit are ok because the previous assholes did it?
          Yeah..terrific logic.

        2. ^You’re utterly missing the point. The current administration have their own convictions and they do it in point-blank while the previous administration had the media on their backs.

Where’s the ‘dirty tactics’ anyway? I believe playing the victim card is another dirty tactic just to gain sympathy. Or maybe you’re too dumb to even realize it.

        3. TheVoiceofTreason,

You don’t have to think whether you follow the Yellow Party or not. We at GRP will do that for you: you do, Nostradumbass.

So, you’re either out on left field with your reasoning, or, you’re deliberately trying to throw a “monkey wrench” in every topic to rattle everyone’s cages.

Time to give the stupidity a rest, Asswipe.

          Aeta

    2. Well you can all stare at the picture all you want… ASG with Canadian’s head and burn in rage.

But if you are willing to submit to the concept of due process and human rights, then the man in the picture holding the head is technically innocent – as he has not been proven guilty in any court of law. Presuming he is guilty is a violation of his rights.

In the process of trying to capture the guy, we will have to sacrifice a dozen of our men in uniform. That’s just getting to first base.

Next is to show undeniable proof in court. Considering no one is willing to testify as witness for fear of his/her life, the case is dismissed, and the guy is free to repeat the kidnap-beheading process again and again and again till our people’s conscience gets numbed out like his after seeing this on a daily basis on our national broadsheets.

Du30’s solution is to kill em all. Is it any wonder why he’s getting a 90% approval rating?
