Robert Carabuena versus the MMDA: Who’s gonna win?

What is it about guys and their cars? The moment guys get behind the wheel, they turn into Mr Hyde. What I thought were mild-mannered Clark Kent types suddenly start acting like they are flying down EDSA (whenever they could) wearing a blue suit, red boots, and a cape. What’s up with that? It’s not as if the average Pinoy motorist is any more special than the other idiot on the other lane driving what is likely to be the same make of Japanese economy car and paying off the same exhorbitant car loan.

Maybe cars have become such comfy cocoons designed to nurture the fragile Pinoy ego even as it frays in the midst of that great equalizer that reminds the biggest among us that none of us is really that special in the scheme of things — Manila’s infernal traffic. Yet I speak too soon. It seems some of us harbor the delusion of our special specialness. Like this guy…

Robert Blair Carabuena — supposedly an Atenista and “experienced recruitment executive” extraordinaire. The guy allegedly mauled a traffic officer of the MMDA.

What makes the man tick? Luckily I needn’t go too far for an answer. GRP blogger Ilda pretty much answered that question some time ago in her article Filipinos need to work on their ego. I liked this particular passage because I could easily relate with it:

There seems to be something wrong with a psyche that makes us so vulnerable to getting upset or offended so easily. Most Filipinos get offended so easily from a perceived indiscretion and are often unable to move on to something bigger or higher than such trivial pursuits. We tend to be consumed with words that should mean nothing to us if they were untrue. This demonstrates a real sign of having an unhealthy ego and insecurity. As someone aptly put it, Filipinos can be onion skinned cry-babies.

And this too…

We place too much value on how other people see us and how our actions are perceived. Filipino culture is averse to being direct to the point. We hate it when someone is totally frank. We tend to contradict ourselves when we project our coyness and at the same time, try so hard to read between the lines and end up failing at this miserably. This is evident in the way most Filipinos offer food to someone as a show of graciousness. Accepting the offer or rejecting the offer of food can mean two things to most Filipinos. If a person rejects the food being offered, a Filipino will tend to think that he or she was snubbed. Often times, the recipient is actually forced to accept the food even if she doesn’t want it. If the food was accepted, the person who offered the food might then actually think that the recipient was greedy.

Atenista pa naman. I’ve dated a lot of Atenistas and they’re pretty ok. Maybe this guy is not a real Atenista. Real Atenistas, if I recall, wear old frayed t-shirts, smelly jeans, and will not be caught dead looking at himself in the mirror for more than a couple of seconds (though I know they do in private!). This guy Carabuena looks like one of those self-anointed “Atenistas” by virtue of having spent four years studying at the Ateneo College. I could be mistaken of course as I don’t have all the facts. But here is my biased take: real Atenistas spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school. You can’t simply buy the distinction of being a true Katipunero guys. 😉

But I digress. The real point here is that between Carabuena and the MMDA guy, I’d root for the MMDA guy. Let me clarify first though that I’m not a big fan of MMDA traffic enforcers by any stretch of the imagination. I think a lot of them are not any more further evolved than our Atenista wannabe pal. But the thing with traffic enforcers is that they represent the Law. Being as such, they represent something a bit more civilized than the Pinoy male ego or some Jesuit school that presumes to educate “the best” of them. And recognizing that, it comes down to another thing I learned from ate Ilda, that Filipinos cannot progress if they cannot follow even simple guidelines. This excerpt sums it up:

There is very little evidence that Filipinos are capable of living by the “rule of law”. The society is quite extraordinary in the sense that simple rules and regulations whether on the road or in the work place are for the most part ignored. This is because each individual has this baseless sense of being more important than everybody else. It is why you see people cutting you off on highway lanes on the road or pushing their way in lines ahead of the rest in a queue. In other words, Filipinos in general tend to put their own interest first before other people.

And that is why guys like Robert Blair Carabuena do what they do.

  1. good post as always! I totally agree on the excerpts you put from Ilda.

I always read antipinoy before (esp last national elections)..is your site related to ap?

    1. Thanks! I can’t comment on the your second question though (re AP). You’ll have to ask the admins about that.

  2. Mayabang ang mga pinoy. The biggest ego inside the smallest… err, thinnest skin. OVERCOMPENSATING 24/7. KSP na KIA pa.

  3. Is he connected to PLDT? kc before i had a problem in PLDT and was able to talk to an arrogant, unreasonable, so mayabang and nakakasumpang kausap na tao by the name of Robert Carabuena….wala di naman nia nagawan ng paraan ang problema…Nagyabang lang siya at muntik pa akong magka HB.

    1. Bea, the one you’ve talked to is a Robert Brian Carabuena (Big Bad Barney’s brother) who not only is mayabang, arrogant and unreasonable as you have described but is also a swindler.

    2. brother nya un un asa pldt. his name is ROBERT BRIAN CARABUENA, asa SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS PHILS CORP sya ngyon.. ganun lang talaga siguro ang lahi na mga kup*l na mga yan,

  4. Typical Pinoy motorist…Almost all Pinoy motorista act like this. Put them behind the wheel and they are ticking time bombs. I think it has something to do with the Pinoy “I am better than you”. Being an old motorist myself, I had my share of this kind of Pinoy attitude and has been one at least once. You are right about the “cocoon” thing but what about those increasing number of scooters. Now this guys with engines between their legs are the worst ever. I think LTO should do something about the spiralling downward of motorist discipline. If I may suggest, for renewal of drivers license, we need to pass a strict examination, written and practical, conducted by another body not connected in any way to the government. If done properly, motorist number would go down by, I’m thinking in region of 20%. Thats your easy solution to traffic jams.

    1. To be fair, there are really so many bastos people on Manila’s streets so nakakainit talaga ng ulo. Maybe the MMDA guy got Robert just right after a jeepney cut him off. Sometimes it’s annoying that jeepneys go scott free and the MMDA guys tend to pick on the private motorists more. It’s all so unfair too.

  5. Stories and pictures have been shared about this “Pinoy” attitude and now we have a good video showing it. People will react to it but they’ll just shrug it off soon saying it’s normal and they’ll not think about themselves. Ugaling Pinoy.

What’s good about this is that it’s been captured by the media and I hope it gains traction to the point of Mr. Carabuena gets what’s coming to him.

  6. Recruitment executive? Isn’t that what you call a criminal who works in HR and demands bribes from those he interviews in exchange for a promise to be put on the shortlist? Seriously, if BS wasn’t seriously intellectually handicapped he would be pursuing this waste of space with more vigour than he used in the persecution of Corona. After all, the problem in this country was not Corona but the fact that the average Filipino is fundamentally dishonest and corrupt in every area of normal life. No wonder the politicians are such kleptocrats when Filipinos are utterly incapable of doing the right thing unless they are overseas or otherwise have a gun held to their head.

  7. Off topic. I am really annoyed treating “The” Ateneo as a brand and how being part of “The” Ateneo would entail a generalize picture of what an Atenean is expected to be.

True that there a lot of smart people graduating from ateneo but again, you can not generalize things and expects a uniform expectation of what they should be.

I tell you, a lot of ateneans are not that smart as they thought they are. They are just so confident about themselves because the society looks so high “generally” about them.

    1. To add to that, most Ateneans are not as rich as what people think. Most of my Atenean friends came from an average type of family, some of them has been sponsored by a distant relative. That’s why it is unfair when people who saw this video says that this guy has a lot of guts because he is from Ateneo.

  8. “This guy Carabuena looks like one of those self-anointed “Atenistas” by virtue of having spent four years studying at the Ateneo College. I could be mistaken of course as I don’t have all the facts. But here is my biased take: real Atenistas spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school. You can’t simply buy the distinction of being a true Katipunero guys.”

I think you might just be confusing “true blue Atenistas from Atenistas”. In any case, I think this is a generalization. 🙂

  9. E kung kayang babuyin and bastusin and Chief Justice, the very person who represents the Laws of the Land, ano pa ba ang isang MMDA trafic enforcer.

Abnoy has been exemplifying the Hambog in the Filipino. Lead by example, as they say, so fellow Atensita, Carabuena dutifully followed.

  10. I am pretty sure this guy has a gun, or guns even. I think the firearms licenses should be revoked before someone gets hurt. This guys purple shirt might just turn yellow.

  11. What does the situation have to do with Ateneo? I really wish people would stop judging a person based on what school they went to. Why do you have to call him “nagfefeeling Atenista” and write the qualities of being a true katipunero or a true Atenista? Just because you’ve dated Atenistas doesn’t mean you can generalize the whole population, unless of course, you’ve dated all of the people there. No need to wash your hands in behalf of the school and imply that “real” Atenistas won’t do something like this. Just because the person did something embarrassing sasabihan na siya na “feeling” Atenista. Sheesh.

    1. I judged him on the basis of what he did, then noted that he happened to be an Atenista then digressed a bit into my personal experience dating some of them and my personal generalization on guys who went to that fine school, and then went on to express my opinion on what it means to be a “true” Atenista.

So if you disagree with all of what I did as enumerated above, what else can I do but acknowledge your disagreement. 😉

  12. It’s the person, his personality and actions, not his school.

Almost every paragraph after mentioning his name talks something connected to Ateneo:

“Maybe this guy is not a real Atenista. Real Atenistas, if I recall, wear old frayed t-shirts, smelly jeans, and will not be caught dead looking at himself in the mirror for more than a couple of seconds (though I know they do in private!).”—-What are they? Are they products of some sort that are standardized? For everyone’s reference, where could people check what a “real Atenista” is?

“real Atenistas spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school. You can’t simply buy the distinction of being a true Katipunero guys.”—–How about those who studied from the province, got a scholarship to pursue college in Ateneo, are they not real Atenistas? Could you please explain why?

Oh, it’s about Carabuena disrespecting a law enforcer. I thought it’s a blog about Ateneo

      1. My question is based on what you said,

        Again:

“real Atenistas spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school. You can’t simply buy the distinction of being a true Katipunero guys.”—–How about those who studied from the province, got a scholarship to pursue college in Ateneo, are they not real Atenistas? Could you please explain why?

So based on what you mean of “real”, how would you consider the example I gave?

For whatever its worth, real means true.

        1. Is this blog post more about what your personal definition of what Ateneans are (which seems pretty narrow-minded, btw) or about what Carabuena did? I really don’t understand what the relevance of the school is to what the guy did. And sorry, but you didn’t just digress – you waxed poetic about the face that the guy is a wannabe Atenean, simply because it is your assumption that he only stayed there for four years.

I was hoping for an article that would take a look at both sides of the story (as the title implies). Instead I get an article that quotes extensively from another blog entry and goes on to attack students of a school. What’s up with that?

        2. As someone who grew up in Ateneo from Prep to Highschool, I would agree with your definition of a real Atenean. I say this because we develop our identities, and our values during this time of our early lives and NOT to be elitist about it. By the time you get into college, you are pretty much set in your ways already.

This is so wrong. Behavior of a person changes over a considrable period of time. Consistent 12 years of values, discipline and teachings does not constitute that By the time you get into college

“you are pretty much set in your ways already”

how much more after a longer period of time.

      2. In your comment above is the answer to your question. My definition of “real Atenista” is that they “spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school”.

By that definition, those examples you cited do not qualify as “real Atenistas” on the basis of my criteria.

        1. How about those who studied from the province, got a scholarship to pursue college in Ateneo, are they not real Atenistas? Could you please explain why?

So based on your criteria, my example are not real atenistas?

        2. How else do I spell it out for you: “those who studied from the province, got a scholarship to pursue college in Ateneo” do not fit my personal criteria on what I consider to be “real Atenistas” which are those who “spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school”.

As to “why” I deem them not real Atenistas? Simple. Because it is my personal preference not to consider those who don’t fit that personal criteria as real Atenistas.

        3. As someone who grew up in Ateneo from Prep to Highschool, I would agree with your definition of a real Atenean. I say this because we develop our identities, and our values during this time of our early lives and NOT to be elitist about it. By the time you get into college, you are pretty much set in your ways already.

  13. i would agree with Mark, being Atenista is definitely out of the question here but how this Carabuena guy acted that way to the MMDA officer. But it just confused me though, how spending 4 years in Ateneo, differs from spending 12 years and becomes the “REAL ATENISTA”? how will someone calls himself if he just spent his tertiary education in Ateneo, “SEMI-ATENISTA”?

    1. As I said earlier: The concept of “real Atenista” as used in my article is based on my personal definition.

    2. Because prep to highschool encompass our formative years. During this time our identities and values are developed and formed. By the time you get into college, you are pretty much a whole person already and 4 years won’t have as much effect as 12 early, young years.

  14. Let this be a life lesson to all of us in the realm of social media and the internet that everything is being recorded (heck I even have the conscious effort of looking from left to right before picking my nose in public LOL). Big Brother is watching and to wild barney I hope you get a damn good freggin lawyer dude. Don’t worry nandyan naman is Phillip Morris on your side. One this is certain, Robert “Blair” Carabuena, You will be humbled.

  15. Though I understand what you are generally trying to say in your article, your statement that “real Atenistas spent twelve years at the Ateneo: from Prep to Grade 7 then up to fourth year high school” would make it seem that Atenista women don’t exist since until the fourth year of high school, only boys are admitted to the Ateneo. Kinda sexist, don’t you think?

    1. Well, the fact is, the Ateneo Grade School and High School are all-male schools.

Look, as I keep emphasizing, the criteria I used in my article is my personal one. In essence, it is an opinion on what constitutes a “real Atenista” that I express there. You and anyone else can disagree with that opinion. By their very nature disagreement, is something opinions have been known to suffer every now and then.

      1. Sure, it’s an opinion, and it’s a sexist one at the least. I would hope that what defines a real Atenean would be the extent to which he embodied the school spirit, not the number of years he spent there. You should be aware, then, that the exclusion of so many other deserving students from your definition of a “Real Atenista” is as elitist as the behavior Mr. Carabuena displayed. That’s my opinion.

  16. Bad behavior is not unique to Filipinos. I guess this is pretty obvious. That guy Carabuena seemed arrogant and it does not excuse him. Whether he is an Atenista or from any school does not matter. To paraphrase, no one has monopoly on good breeding in the same way that there are really people who do bad things. An Ateneo education, or any education for that matter, cannot guarantee a person’s character (remember those who cheated in the bar exams? they were from Ateneo). So maybe it would be good to focus on issues and not on where this person came from.

  17. Hi Kate,

Funny that you commented that Blair was not a true Atenista simply because he did not attend the school since prep. Oh, please do not confuse those “Real Atenistas” with those who only attended the college for 4 years like Blair who, God forbid, us “Anointed Atenistas” turn out like this fat heap of embarrassment.

For purposes of this discussion though, allow me to use your oh-so-“perceptive” definitions of “Real Atenista” versus “Anointed Atenista.” Blair Carabuena is NEITHER. Yes, he graduate from Ateneo but barely. In fact he was kicked out several times from a couple of courses before some desperate, low-life in Registration/Administration accepted his family’s bribe money and put him back on the enrolled list. Pathetic. I know. I was his course mate. Really couldn’t understand how I could still see his fat ass on campus after he was caught cheating in a final exam and was expelled. Why not just bribe whoever prints our diplomas to make a special one JUST FOR HIM so he wouldn’t have to go through all that trouble of studying… This just proves that he’s not the only pig in the system.

In conclusion: college pa lang, ganyan na yang tarantadong yan. He’ll slime his way through life as long as he’s backed up by mommy and daddy’s money.

He makes us–those who commuted from Bulacan, Cavite, or Paranaque at 5:00am to Ateneo in QC to attend 7:00am classes, who studied (the real kind, Blair) their asses off, and saved their allowance so they wouldn’t have to depend too much on their parents/titos/titas, and graduated ON TIME because prolonging studies was a financial burden–pity him because he will never be truly called one of us… Atenistas.

    1. Well, to be honest, I did go out with a few ‘tarantado’ guys who fit my Prep to 4th Year Hi-School criteria. Siga nga sila e, but their katarantadohan came back to bite when they applied to the Ateneo College and were not admitted. So my definition of being a ‘true Atenista’ has nothing to do with how good or how smart a person is. It’s just nicey criteria that’s good for laughs (though it does mean something at a deeper level when you’ve been fortunate enough to hang out with these cliques as a kid).

      1. “Maybe this guy is not a real Atenista. ”

Based now on your elaboration, Robert Carabuena is a “real” atenista because:

“Well, to be honest, I did go out with a few ‘tarantado’ guys who fit my Prep to 4th Year Hi-School criteria.”

Does this not describe Mr. Carabuena “Prep to HS at Tarantado”

        Again:

The basket (Ateneo) is just a part of how each egg’s (person) behavior is formed. Nevertheless, the basket should not have been included as any form/source of evaluation/relation in this article.

      2. It’s my article. You are free to express an opinion on what should or should not be included in it and I shall, in the famous words of the honorable JPE, note it accordingly.

  18. give the dummy a good ass kicking, the atenista, like his dad probably never did and he would probably start crying like a pansy.filipino’s do have a very sensitive nature and are soooo easily insulted that they are worse than the ‘bruthas’ in the states.just unbelievably sensitive, like little girls in high school….whhhaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

  19. You’re definition is really flawed. In any case he is a true blue Atenean – based on your definition. Prep to college yan nag aral sa Ateneo.

I think sa grade school at high school – ang tatatak sa isang Atenista eh yun konsepto ng man for others. Sa college eh yun preferential option for the poor. Both are neither exemplified by this fool. A disgrace to the school, the employer and to being a Filipino.

      1. Yes, that’s is why the basket (Ateneo) is just a part of how each egg’s (person) behavior is formed. Nevertheless, the basket should not have been included as any form/source of evaluation/relation in this article.

    1. I therefore conclude that Kate has a history of having dated plenty of “real Atenistas.” Point taken. The title “Robert Carabuena versus the MMDA: Who’s gonna win?” was actually pretty much misleading. A blog teeming w/ nitty-gritty substance.

  20. Get your facts straight first about being a true blue atenean. Mr. Carabuena studies in ADMU for a good 16 years. From prep, all the way to college. So am I saying that true blue ateneans act this way? No. I’m directly telling you that there’s something wrong with your way of thinking.

So please stop generalizing and change your so-called “personal definition” of what being an atenista is.

  21. Yeah, the guy’s at fault, but I feel sorry for him having his act caught on media. It’s like he’s the only one responding with violence. This article is too one-sided and looks like it’s written to simply bash the person. Your criticism at Carabuena, your flawed generalization towards his Alma Matter (which DOESN’T really have to do anything with the situation) and even your defense on the past comments saying that this was JUST your personal opinion altogether makes for an amateurish blog post, and not an article which I always expected of GRP. Like some dude (or woman, dunno) quoted: “Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people.”

On a brighter side, I’ll have to agree with your general view of the populace. But I think it’s not just restricted to race or culture. It may have to do with human nature in general.

  22. The idiot is only following the examples of our Political Leaders. He thinks , he is above the law. Political leaders, who are in power , always think:they are above the law. They can impeach Supreme Court Justices, with fabricated evidences. They can summon, Liars as witnesses in the impeachment. Their lies are accepted, as truth. A few months back; Mayor Duterte hit a Sheriff, who was evicting Squatters. So, are you surprized, if this fellow thinks, he is above the law also?

  23. Who are we to judge when it was a mere 27sec video? Yes, physically assaulting people is wrong, but so is just shouting and calling names.
He did seem arrogant on that moment. I do not know how him, so I cannot say that he is really like that, or that he is not worthy of being called an Atenista or an executive of Philip Morris
What I’m simply trying to point out, this outrage we have for one person is may e unnecessary as we do not know how the MMDA officer approached him and his companions during the apprehension.
As a motorist, I have encountered several officers who try to intimidate motorists and are quite rude. He may have just reacted to how he was approached and his reaction may have surprised the MMDA officer that caused the latter to cower. The officer may be telling the truth that he did apprehend the motorist for having violated his instructions, but how was it done?
Not siding on anyone here, just putting things into another perspective because the comments about the video are quite rude as well, calling him names and saying “kill him”.
Well, those who commented in that manner are not so different from him.

    1. “Well, those who commented in that manner are not so different from him.”

and that’s the beauty of it. i wish when this thing happens again someone would just give sh*tf*uck and dropkick the guy right away. i wanna see some real internet tough guy on the streets. lol.

      1. Everyone wants to “kill” him, but I wonder if they would actually stand in the way and help protect the victim other than just video tape the incident.

    2. nice one. . . i think the fat guy is a brother of yours. . . watch the news and other witnesses. . . ur pathetic atenista tsk tsk

      1. @Jim Paredes
Ahahaha, you’re assumption is so funny. You’re upset with my comment and think I am an Atenista because of that? Sorry, calling names does not appeal me that much that is why I wrote what that.
Pakibasa nga ulit, I think you missed the point.
He does not need to be my brother or my co-worker or co-alumni for me to look at things in a different perspective.
Double standards ang tawag jan. Sabi ko nga, I am not siding with anyone. Pero if ganun kakitid ang utak mo para intidihin un, then that is your problem.
Again, you’re no different from him by commenting in that manner.
        Pfft!

  24. ahaha! the comments here are just freakin’ hilarious! sorry, but i think kate should just stick to the glitz and glamour part of grp. her style of writing fits it better me thinks.

as for the douche, im pretty sure each and every mmda officer has their eyes on you now. even if you do get away this time, your next interaction with them will be quite memorable to say the least. 😉

i wonder though how people are going to react if they see something like this happening again. like, in front of them i mean.

  25. The more you keep on commenting about the school, the more it keeps being dragged into this mess.
“Of likes and dislikes there shall be no disputing. Live and let live.”
In short, it’s the woman’s opinion, you can’t force your definitions on her (whether she’s wrong or not).
So how do you avoid including the school into the topic? Don’t ever mention it in articles or comments.
    I didn’t (specifically). 🙂

    1. Yes, stopping it starts in the article. If someone already did, why won’t you do anything about it to let them know it’s wrong?

  26. Kailanagan bang isingit na dineyt ka ng Atensita? O baka naman kasi di kapanipaniwala kung yung lang ang paguusapan?

  27. I would actually be offended by your classification of “real” Ateneans as those who started all the way back from the Ateneo Grade-School, except that the subject matter being discussed here is in fact Robert Blair Carabuena.

I too studied in the Ateneo, albeit only for 4 years. I had both true-blue Ateneans and “adopted” Ateneans for classmates. I have a nephew and inaanak who started in Ateneo Grade School and is graduating from Ateneo HS this year.

From what I have seen back then in my day, and up until now, the Ateneo has never offered classes or courses in self-control, which is what was obviously severely wanting in Mr. Carabuena as far as this infamous incident is concerned. Not blaming the school of course.

In fact, I would say that this is a function of both the individual and his upbringing. Given how the father has defended son Blair, I’m not at all surprised.

I don’t believe the Ateneo or any other school would be relevant here in any case. If anything, I would at least agree with you in that this problem is cultural and societal. Something is definitely wrong with our collective values as a society.

  28. I do disagree with the some statements. I do not believe going to whatever and whereever will affect who you really are as a person. You may end up picking up things along the way but it does not define you completely just because you were from school A or B, so I would have to disagree.

I am more on the side of what a friend of mine told me. If you really want to know how a person is on the inside, watch them play golf/drive. You will see their true character.

I do believe that has more bearing than what school they went to. Just my 2 cents.

  29. I am not defending Atenistas (I think they don’t need defending) but bringing the school into this discussion or even in the topic is a little off. I came from a Jesuit institution from Nursery to Grade 7 (The other Jesuit High School in San Juan)and then to an Opus Dei University and even from those backgrounds you see the good and bad be it in our school or in any school or even in public colleges. There is nothing in the school that teaches that and it’s in the person, their breeding, and their formation. Though I do agree with you on the other points but just not the “Atenista pa man din” I know “True Blue” guys who are far worse than criminals and I have friends who just took the 4 year Atenista thing and are saints. If it comes to that, then I’d rather be with the “fake” Atenistas.

I am not dissing you but please, you are in “Get Real” wala naman sanang generalizations.

  30. Hahaha, poor atenistas. this blogger has already said it, it’s is her opinion, her criteria, her definition, her article, etc…. Yet you no gets???? onelike Barney eh?

  31. This article was so poorly written, it couldn’t have come from an atenista.

It isn’t about being an atenista, my dear girl. It is about how egoistic Filipinos are in general. I can feel you squiring in your undies hearing the blue eagle’s name tarnished by this narcissistic fat slob.

It is ironic how you point out his inflated ego, yet not see your own. Why would Ateneans be different from anybody else? But I digress…

  32. sad to say, Blair Carabuena was blue blooded all the way.

personally, when i say, “atenista ka pa naman din” means, after all the shit load of money your parents spend for you to get a decent education, you must have AT LEAST learned or acquired good manners and right conduct to your fellow man. especially when your motto is “man for others”.

the reason why until now people are bashing him, unlike Christopher Lao, is that Christopher humbly asked for apology for his actions, while Carabuena merely shut up and began thinking of his counterclaim against the MMDA.

  33. The blogger’s comment about real atenistas / true blues are actually correct. U cant be blinded or deny that internally, these terms are being used, so there actually IS a true blue atenista. Yes, there are no girl true blue atenistas out there but they are from ateneo, not just the whole stretch.

the fact that people delcare on this blog thatthey are from ateneo prep to fourth on this blog just makes you a poser. Atenistas dont really care much of being true blue, its the people who arent true blue who does.

  34. Stop with the generalizations please. I have seen many true-blue atenistas who are just as arrogant as those who only spent 4 years there. Stop defending ateneo. Just like any other school, it has plenty of bad eggs.

  35. Stop with the generalizations please. I have met a lot of true-blue atenistas who are just as arrogant as those who spent only 4 years there. Ateneo has plenty of bad eggs just like all the other schools. Peace.

  36. Robert Carabuena versus the MMDA: Who’s gonna win?

He won against the lowly MMDA traffic aide. He’s rich and the poor guy is just that, poor. His intimidation triumphed against the very weak and destitute.

Against the MMDA he will surely lose if his people, his kind or his connections will not lift a finger to help him. He will surely lose if the MMDA will seriously and strictly pursue the case regardless of who he is and what his connections are.

Either way, he already lost in the bar of public opinion.

  37. Ateneans in general are hambog, at least in my experience. Most of them seem to think they’re rich just because they study in the 2nd most expensive university in the country. Send them to the US let’s see if they can afford to study in an Ivy league school. Most of them can’t.

    1. Even people whose only exposure to ateneo is to attend its MBA program or any short course suddenly consider themselves atenistas and start acting, like you say, hambog. Sheesh.

Does ateneo offer a typing class? Maybe I can attend so that I can call myself an atenista too lol
