Jim Paredes ruined the ‘spirit’ of the 1986 EDSA people power revolution

The memory of the 1986 EDSA people power revolution was ruined by the image of former singer Jim Paredes bullying pro-Duterte supporters during the 31st anniversary commemoration on the 25th of February 2017.

A video of Paredes was circulating on the Net showing him mumbling something incoherent after approaching a few young men holding a pro-Duterte sign. A lot of people thought he was going nuts with the way he was so in-your-face with his approach. His face was literally inches away from those of the young men as he forced them to look him in the eye. He was definitely not in his Zen state. He could use some of his advice in his blog about how to be calm and collected. It was not a very good sight. Some people also felt sorry for Paredes since the years have not been kind to him. Gone are his youthful good looks that made him famous during his heyday as a member of the popular singing trio Apo Hiking Society. It could also be his negative mental attitude that is making him look shabby.

The problem with Paredes is he thinks he and his allies own the “spirit” of the EDSA revolt. This was evident in his excuse for his erratic behaviour. He said that the pro-Duterte supporters were being disrespectful when they showed up during the commemoration. If he was a true supporter of freedom of speech, he would not have minded the presence of the opposition at the event. Instead of trying to shoo them away, he would have defended their right to free expression especially since he was there to celebrate that so-called freedom from oppression tenet won in Edsa.

Paredes seems to think that he has a monopoly on being right. To him, everyone else who oppose his views of the world are wrong. He is the epitome of what is wrong with the Liberal Party and the people who still believe that what they call the “bloodless” revolution was good for the Philippines.

Paredes and people like him have not evolved well. They cling on to the failed idea that ousting a sitting President back in 1986 amounts to a real revolution. A lot of Filipinos already see it for what it was – simply a power grab. A real revolution results in real reforms – reforms that would result in real progress. A real revolution means a change in the system of government and change in the behaviour of the people. All these did not happen after the “bloodless” revolution of 1986.

Aside from Paredes, other so-called “democracy” supporters were annoyed that pro-Duterte supporters held their own rally in Luneta during the Edsa31 celebrations. They also demonstrated their intolerance.

What the pro-Duterte supporters did — hold a rally on EDSA anniversary — is exactly what the spirit of people power was supposed to mean.

Paredes and people like him need to accept the truth that what happened then and what they are celebrating year after year did not amount to anything good for the majority. It was only beneficial to the members of the Philippine oligarchy especially those allied with the Aquinos. It is ironic that Paredes does not realise this considering he and his family had to leave the country for a better life overseas.

Paredes is full of contradictions as usual. He doesn’t practice the tolerance that he preaches — for he is intolerant of views that differ to his own. This is strange considering he is an old man. We expect old men to have the patience and wisdom to accept that not everyone will subscribe to their views. I suppose we have to be the one to adjust and not expect too much from Paredes. After all, he seems to have been brainwashed into believing that he is a “hero” and should be accorded “respect”. Never mind that he does not show respect to people with other different beliefs and point of view.

  1. The yellowtards should even thank President Marcos for that “bloodless” revolution they are bragging about.

Yes, the 1986 EDSA Revolt was bloodless because Marcos was sane enough not to bomb EDSA despite the pressure to take decisive actions from the AFP Chief of Staff at the time to preserve his presidency. Had it been an Aquino administration, the result would have been bloody! If yellowtards don’t believe me that it could have been a different story if the sitting president was an Aquino, they can google January 22, 1987, Mendiola Massacre video clips where the peaceful march to Malacanang led by farmers was eventually dispersed by bullets on President Cory Aquino’s order! The farmers were not threatening anyone prior to the dispersal. It was an ordinary peaceful rally until police started firing into the crowds. I know because I was there- just some hundred meters away with some of my schoolmates from Adamson who joined that fateful farmers’ protest!

So I’d say, wake up Jim Paredes! If it wasn’t Ferdinand Marcos who was the Philippine President at the time when communism was so intense the world over, where almost all of the ASEAN countries fell to them – save only for Thailand but ruled by Junta govt, Malaysia/Singapore (still looked after by the UK govt in their transition period after gaining independence in 1963) and Indonesia (with around a million people killed just to get rid of the communists) – the Philippines would have been ruled by the ruthless red army of Joma Sison and that formerly popular singing trio where Jim was a member would not have made even a single album!

  2. Guy is looking for relevance in this world where he feels mostly forgotten. Problem is, he’s doing it the wrong way. And whatever got him to become a flunkie for politcians… I’m not having any of it. lol

  3. The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree. At least he is not killing these young men, unlike his mother who participated in the bombings in Metro Manila back in the Martial law days, killing innocent people. But still his action is uncalled-for.

  4. Paredes has well matured into a Yellow Arschloch of the finest kind. I’m not sure if his fellow alumni at the Ateneo can be proud of this. Is this what being a ‘Man For Others’ is all about?

  5. Jim Paredes seems to be “on high” on illegal drug like Shabu or Cocaine. The man is a hardened YellowTard Extremist, like ISIS.

The Old generation of Filipinos, who are still brainwashed by EDSA “bloodless revolution”, are like Robots. They do not think. They swallow everything, that the Aquino Cojuangco political axis; and the U.S. /C.I.A. had rammed into their throats.

The EDSA “coup d’ etat, is already declassified in the U.S./C.I.A. archives. Anyone can get this information, thru the Freedom of Information Act.

It is very clear that EDSA was not a revolution. It was a Power Grab of the Aquino Cojuangco political axis; assisted by Fidel Ramos; Juan Ponce Enrile; Cardinal Sin; the Roman Caholic Church; etc…

The coup d’ etat was directed by the U.S. State Department, under State Secretary George Shultz. The U.S./C.I.A. operatives, were also active in the operation.

They first want to kidnap the late Pres. Marcos, Sr., with the aid of the U.S. Navy SEALS.
However, their work became easier, when Marcos , Sr. asked for a transportation going to Ilocos Norte.

All they do was take him to Hawaii , U.S.A.

Then, they used the YellowTard Media, to spread : Fake News about EDSA. It became a Fake History. The gullible Filipinos, swallowed the “EDSA bait”, hook, line and sinker !

The reason of the overthrow of the late Pres. Marcos, Sr., was the extension of the U.S. Bases agreement in the Philippines. Pres. Marcos, Sr. was against the extension of the U.S. bases agreement !

Jim Paredes is still “on high” on EDSA ! A YellowTard Extremist !

    1. Soviet Russia has a word for brainwashed fools like the leftist professors and students from elite school like Ateneo: Useful Idiots.

    1. You forgot one important detail. Marcos at the time was of failing health with Lupus. That played a huge factor why they were able to remove him from the picture.

  6. Here is an excerpt of Jim Paredes state of mind when interviewed by PCIJ in 2006,
Like many among the disillusioned middle class who once yearned and fought for democracy, Paredes now believes that Filipinos need a strong leader. “The democracy that we experienced cannot deliver,” he says. “I don’t think the people care very much what the form is. You could put a strong leader there, who bends rules a little bit. I think you could take that as long as the outcome is good.”
He says Filipinos need leaders who can “kick a$$,” who — like Singapore’s Lee Kwan Yew, for example — can “walk the talk,” and who can truly lead by example. The future government, Paredes suggests, should be willing to do one thing that the post-Edsa government was not willing to do: “knock down some people.”
When asked if he means lining up the crooks against a wall and shooting them, he replies, “Oh, that would be nice, too. You know what? I wouldn’t cry over it if it happened.

Fast Forward to 25 Feb 2017 …. he CONTRADICTED himself when he BULLIED those pro-Duterte Youths in EDSA !

Yeah, very convincing , Jim ….

  7. something smells burning in the yellow kitchen? what if the SC denies de lima’s request to nullify her case? will she exposed the prime ingredients in her menu? sounds like blackmailing within its own ranks is in the wok. she’s so scared for her life to keep her silence.

  8. It’s an universal law — intolerance is the first sign of an inadequate education. An ill-educated person behaves with arrogant impatience, whereas truly profound education breeds humility.

    1. they need Edwin Marcos services to stop delima from singing panatang makabayan. Imagine the life of Arroyo during her turmoil in the hands of Abnoy. Now somebody replaced her in the cell.her prosecutor delimaw. No outside world , every second is like an hour. pretty sure delima will give up and sing the song
      duterte is waiting for

  9. The guy is an idiotic fruitcake high on something (drugs?).

He represents everything that is wrong with these piss yellow morons!

  10. Edsa was a beautiful and peaceful place to visit until the monument was built.
it symbolized by a figure of a crying lady from Hacienda Luisita who was a victim of harassment
    by the Elitists.

  11. he is an opportunist for a reason and not a warrior, selling his patriotic song to the people is really a fair sums, right Jim?

his patriotism is just for the sake of popularity. whenever his name appeared in the newspaper, he gained popularity with it.

so what is inside this “Handog ng pilino sa mundo” mean to us?

it’s like a pain in the a.. twisted “Hotdog ng Pilipino sa mundo, mahahaba at….lalala” after Imelda won several cases over this plunder case.

it was a failure and cory accepted her fate and died a very very sad individual.

sorry, the show is over Jim, wake up!

  12. More useful if the EDSA monument converted to street dweller’s dream home a sky scrapper home for the homeless. anyway the EDSA people power continue to deteriorate due to people lost the interest and many already awaken. BBM electoral protest is getting near and VP lugaw now in election campaign mode .
which come first..trinalles plan to impeached du30 or VP leni lost the VP position.. If VP lugaw lost ..it’s a game over for the liberal Party to get the power back to them..and it is time to get out of the country with the loot
