“You know, the Philippines is not a vassal state. We have long ceased to be a colony of the United States. Alam mo, marami diyan, sa mga kolumnista, they look upon Obama and the United States as if we are the lap dogs of this country. I do not respond to anybody but to the people of the Republic of the Philippines. Wala akong pakialam sa kaniya. Who is he? When as a matter of a fact, at the turn of the century, before the Americans left the Philippines in the pacification campaign of the Moro in this island, there were about six million ang population ng Moro. How many died? Six hundred. If he can answer that question and give the apology, I will answer him.

“I am not beholden to anybody. Iyong mga kolumnista diyan na ‘wait until he meets,’ who is he? I am a President of a sovereign state, and we have long ceased to be a colony. I do not have any master, except the Filipino people, nobody but nobody.

“You must be respectful. Do not just throw questions and statements. Putang-ina, mumurahin kita diyan sa forum na ‘yan. Huwag mo akong ganunin. Tell that to everybody. Itong mga kolumnista, para ba akong tinatakot, anak ka ng — umalis kayo diyan sa Pilipinas, pumunta kayo doon sa Amerika. You write kung ano nasa isip — the lap dogs of this American. Who is he to confront me? As a matter of fact, he has too many –America has one too many to answer for the misdeeds in this country. Hanggang ngayon hindi pa tayo nakatikim ng apology niyan. That is the reason why Mindanao continues to boil.

Sabi mo that was the last century, ‘yang wounds na ‘yan from generation to generation. As a matter of fact, we inherited this problem from the United States. Why? Because they invaded this country and made us their subjugated people. Everybody has a terrible record of extrajudicial killings. Why make an issue about fighting crime? Look at the human rights of America along that line, the way how they treat the migrants there. Can he explain the 600,000 Moro massacred in this island? Do you want to see the pictures? Maybe, you’ll ask him, and make it public. We have a recorded history of that sordid period of our national life.

“Nobody but nobody can just—sino ka? ‘Yung mga American-Indian sa sine lang inubos mo eh. What about the rights of those guys who died in the past? Is it because it’s just the past tense we do not answer for the present tense? You must be kidding. Stop joking yourself. Kayong mga sobra kabilib diyan — who is Obama to ask me that? I’ll tell him, who are you? Tell him that, telegraph mo ngayon. Hindi ako punta dito, magpaka-ulila diyan sa mga

“We have long been a Republic. I do not — I said, I do not kneel down before anybody else, except the Filipino in Quiapo walking in misery and in extreme poverty and hunger. Hindi kayo maghinto diyan sa droga — the campaign against drugs will continue. Maraming mamatay diyan, plenty will be killed until the last pusher is out of the streets. Until the drug manufacturer is killed, we will continue and I will continue, and I don’t give a shit about anybody observing my behavior. Sige lang mabilib kayo diyan. ‘Yung mga column nag-bash, susmaryosep! Pagka-lap dog ng mga — pretending to be the conscience of this — sino ka? Hindi ako bilib diyan sa America. Gusto mo sipain ko pa ‘yan sa harap mo eh. Pumunta kayo doon.”

  1. Ok. Which media outfit misreported this speech? I would like to write a strongly worded letter to whoever wrote it.

Sorry, I have to ask because I don’t know who was the first to misquote this.

  2. Benigno

Read the Official Gazette version of Duterte’s reply (not part of his departure speech) to a certain Morales of Reuters News.

    https://www.facebook.com/notes/official-gazette-of-the-republic-of-the-philippines/departure-speech-of-president-rodrigo-roa-duterte-before-his-trip-to-laos-and-in/1080838788618412?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE

It is clear from the immediate context of the utterance that Duterte’s expletive may be regarded as an outburst of anger and irritation directed at “mga kolumnista” (repeaeted twice, evidently including Morales) and certainly NOT towards Obama.

  3. There is nothing wrong with what Pres. Duterte said…it was twisted by the Yellowtard Media, and given to foreign correspondents, for their selfish interest.

Pres. Duterte cited the truth of our Philippine history. We were sold by Spain…we defeated Spain in the War of Independence. America was scammed by Spain. Then, America came to invade us, to recover their money ! This is the truth.

There were Extra Judicial killings of Filipinos, during the pacification process of the “insurrectos” (our forefathers). There were even massacres, like the Hacienda Luisita massacres !

Many of the American soldiers were killed also. This was their first Vietnam war !

  4. Bobby Tiglao of Manila Times could not have said it best; it’s a matter that was simply “lost in translation”, and I could not agree more. Here’s the transcript of what Tiglao wrote:

“It seems plain to me that Duterte wasn’t calling Obama a “son of a whore” as nearly all foreign reports reported, for two reasons:

First, it was prospective, that he would curse Obama in that planned forum if the US President raised the issue of judicial killings. It is not even clear if by “mumurahin kita,” he meant he would say “Putangina mo, Obama.”

Second, and more importantly, this is a case of lost-in-translation. Duterte didn’t’ say “Putangina mo, Obama” as he did during the campaign when he clearly said “Putangina mo, Papa.”

He simply prefaced his sentence with “Putangina,” which really translates, not into “son of a whore,” but is a stock exclamation of annoyance, with the meaning closer to “shit,” “fuck”, or the British “bollocks,” with which Americans or their Old World cousins habitually use to preface their sentences when agitated, even in the slightest way.”

    1. Bro, “shit” is still used to refer to the fecal matter that comes out of the sphincter, and “fuck” is still used to describe the sex act.

  5. I knew he had been intentionally misquoted again even before I read this. C’mon Philippine media, this is why my aunt says the media can’t be trusted because “medya” lang sila magreport ng katotohanan – they spew half-truths, in English.

Next report, kung sabihin ng presidenteng kung wala nang makain, kahit anong hayop pwede na, ang ilalabas ng media: “Duterte said he’ll eat dogs.”

    Potek na mga ‘to.

  6. NPR-WNYC a a popular radion station in New Yok because of its objectivity)reported at 5pm here in New York that Du30 was really MISQOUTED… but it doesnt matter anymore because Du30 took responsability already and expressed his regret.

  7. M-E-D-I-A means:
    M-anipulative E-xposition D-eceptively
    I-mplying A-ccuracy

That is just one of the grand scheme of the Prince of the Power of the Air to deceive the world.

  8. Media na naman ang may kasalanan? Ba’t, media ba ang nagmura? Media ba ang nag-react violently on a simple question about extra-judicial killings?

    I don’t think it’s media. It’s conscience, actually.

    Guilty conscience. : (

      1. Media biased is the shallow escape goat that people use when they have no proper response against criticism.

The video was clear, what “biased” are you talking about?

Troll? Another diversion. Reason and argue your point instead of name-calling.

        1. Seems you’re not familiar about media outlets like ABS-CBN, Inquirer, Rappler, etc. are all Yellow Media outlets.

Even the video itself is questionable. What are you talking about?

It’s not a diversion. I’m calling names that very fit for a Yellowtard like yourself.

Yeah, you are totally missing the point, fam.

        2. All I know is I’m responding to “DIO”.

You’re going ballistic Enrico Pucci. If you are ready to debate and argue your point, just tell me. Right now, I’m letting you to cool off.

          Easy brod, hindi kita inaaway.

DIO, are you still there? : )

        3. @gnogid:

Don’t stray off from the topic and go straight to the point.. Unfortunately, you don’t have anything to argue since you’re an actual TROLL.

Please take your TROLLING to somewhere else.

        4. Even the video itself is questionable. – Enrico
          ===
That could be a start of a good conversation. So what’s questionable on that video?

        5. That could be a start of a good conversation. So what’s questionable on that video?

That video can lead to many misinterpretations. Do you think his dirty mouth pointed on Obama? Well, it seems you’re implying, though.

        6. That video can lead to many misinterpretations. Do you think his dirty mouth pointed on Obama? Well, it seems you’re implying, though.
          ===
The video is very clear and any misinterpretation is just an attempt to soften the impact of what was clearly uttered.

With regard to dirty mouth, there is no implying there. Duterte has a dirty mouth and I say that not on a personal level but on physical and social and even presidential context.

I’ll even dare assume that a lot of those who voted for him really don’t know him as in really know him. But having said that we have to respect the people’s decision. My only hope is that in representing ALL of us Duterte should put in a mind that as president everything he does reflects on all of us.

Or is that too much to ask for?

  9. however way you spin it…the guy said the word. and do you think he was referring to the reporters? are they gonna be on the forum? of course it is POTUS and nobody else.

  10. Clearly, there is a malice on the report made by biased media. Putangina simply means “shit”, “bullocks”, or bisaya- “atay” or “gi-atay”. Just simply cursing over something stupid.
