China’s threat of ‘counterstrike’ in West Philippine Sea: What’s next move for Ph Government?

After taking naval control over Scarborough Shoal, China is now ratcheting up its efforts to secure other disputed territories in the West Philippine Sea. According to China’s state media, a “counterstrike” will be launched against Philippine forces if the Philippine government does not stand down on its provocative activities in the area. The overseas edition…

Benjo Benaldo’s million-dollar lifestyle explains how he bagged his trophy wife

I used to wonder how an obscure former Congressman from Cagayan de Oro could bag a hot Brazilian babe like Daiana Menezes. But then after reading about his million-dollar lifestyle in a Mindanao Gold Star Daily article describing his “imeldific” lifestyle, it suddenly all made sense to me. What red-blooded female after all can resist…

Did the girl cry wolf? Did the boy try to kill himself? This is the latest drama-turned-cliffhanger that started with strange posts on Twitter coming from Brazilian model and TV host Daiana Menezes. The tweets featured photos on Instagram that seemed to suggest Menezes was a victim of domestic violence supposedly arising from spats over…

United States Supreme Court rulings pave the way for expanded same-sex partnership rights!

In the first of two moves widely considered to be landmark decisions towards the advancement of same-sex marriage and civil liberties for gay people, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has just recently ruled against Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) of 1996. This section defines marriage as fundamentally between…

Kevin Rudd new Australian Prime Minister again in Labor efforts to cling to leadership in Parliament

Australia has a new old Prime Minister. Kevin Rudd has been sworn in as PM three years after being ousted as head of the Australian government by his then deputy Julia Gillard in a bitterly-fought jostle for leadership of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) in June 2010. At the time Rudd had served for only…

Why I Blog: And why Blogging can never be Regulated or called ‘Journalism’

In my own blog, I explained my own reasons for blogging. I also quoted Andrew Sullivan of The Atlantic, who explained that blogging is a journey, since a blogger can change their opinion after learning new things on the way. I also made the assertion that blogging is not automatically journalism and should not be…

Does Manila Really Need A Slogan?

When it comes to changing things for the better, dilettantes masquerading as activists and self-professed experts will often prioritize creating superficial hype because of their profound lack of understanding and insight into what the real problems are. Case in point is Carlos Celdran and his brain-fart on Facebook where he proposes that “Manila needs a…
