3 Reasons Why I Approve Of Same Sex Relationships

Well, it really looks like Manny Pacquiao is adamant about running for senator in the coming elections and there’s little anyone can do about it. As a matter of fact, considering the kind of mindset majority of Filipinos have, it won’t be all that surprising if he actually wins and uses his seat in the senate as a sleeping bag. Anyway, we all know the man’s sentiments when it comes to the LGBT community. According to him, people like him and their “god”, people who find love in the arms of people of the same sex are worse than animals. Take note however that this “god” is the same entity that is convincing Manny Pacquiao to run for senate so he can spend more time sleeping when not in a boxing or basketball match.

Anyway, LGBT relationships in the Philippines is a delicate topic and a very polarizing one at that. More likely than not, one person will side with its approval while the other will openly condemn it and consider is a blasphemy to God. Manny Pacquiao and those who agree with him (like Mar Roxas, for instance) sit on the latter for the simple reason that their “god” said so without considering the context of said words in the Bible.

Also note how our society just loves to stereotype homosexuals and perceive gays as flamboyant drag queens and lesbians as gruff ladettes who like to do manly things. The idea of a manly gay or a feminine lesbian almost never occurs in the mind of the homophobic Pinoy. Bisexuals are also rather disdained by many and aren’t clearly understood and are all too often assumed to be gay or lesbian. What’s worse is the idiotic myth that drowning or beating gays will turn them into real men or raping a lesbian will make her a woman that continue to circulate in our moronic society.

However, I for one wish to tolerate the LGBT community and their relationships and here’s why:

LGBT People Deserve To Love And Be Loved Too

I’m sure that the homophobics of the Philippines will once again resort to using the Bible to justify their hatred. More likely than not, they’re probably going to cite the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as signs of God’s displeasure towards homosexuals and homosexuality. They’re also likely to use words from the Book of Deuteronomy as reasons for their rabid ignorance towards the LGBT community.

Well, now that I think about it, God probably wasn’t even talking about homosexuality at all. I think that He was actually referring to promiscuity and depravity which are problems that are just as bad today as they were back then. If anything, God was probably referring to the way people back then tried to rape everyone they could get their hands on, regardless whether they were male of female just so they could have a good time. And mind you, rape is also every bit a problem today as it was back then, especially in our country where it’s even believed by a backward few that raping a lesbian will reverse her gender preferences.

A sincere homosexual relationship is different from just wanton promiscuity and perversion. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because, if one reads the Bible carefully, it was because everyone in town wanted to rape the “foreigners” that came to visit Lot’s house. Oh and “to know” was a euphemism in the Bible for sex, in case you guys didn’t know. God also spoke against homosexuality, or more precisely anal sex, because at the time, people could get all kinds of diseases from it in the same way that God spoke against eating pork as there was no way that early Jews could prepare pork safely for consumption. Today is different from back then as we now have “safe sex” practices that can prevent the spread of STDs just as we now have a means to prepare pork and kill all the pathogens it carries so as to be safe to eat.

I think that God would honor a dedicated homosexual relationship over a dishonest marriage between straight people. There is a clear distinction between “sexuality” and “depravity” ladies and gentlemen and I hope most of you reading this know that. Unfortunately, given the kind of society we have that still seems to be stuck in the Stone Age, is it really any surprise that we all too often misplace one with the other?

Homosexuals Are A Failsafe Against Overpopulation

Contrary to what Manny Pacquiao might have said, homosexual does in fact occur in animals. There are a lot of theories surrounding it and why it occurs but one of the major theories about it is that it prevents overpopulation. Indeed when there are too many animals in a given environment, they may overfeed and kill off their fellows through starvation.

Homosexual animal couples occur, according to some scientists, so that Nature (or, if you really want to talk about it that way, God) can put a cap on the populations of some animals. This is often noted in many social animals (animals that travel in groups) such as wolves, bats and birds. Also, there are many animals like frogs and some fish who change their gender according to either the conditions of their surroundings or their innate biological clocks. These are just a few examples I can note compared to tons of other research done by scientists, but what can we expect from a legislator who spends most of his working hours sleeping?

Anyway, as some of you may note, the occurrence of homosexuals in our country is on the rise. Some say that this may be a sign of the times or something. If you ask me though, it is indeed a sign of the times as God is telling us to stop breeding irresponsibly. While a big population can be helpful to a country, if its constituents are unproductive and even destructive in the long run, then it’s all for naught.

LGBT People Can Be Good Parents

Another finding that researchers have discovered is that homosexual animal couples in social animals help take care of orphans in their community. For instance a gay wolf couple can take care of a pup whose parents have died and teach it the right tactics of hunting in a pack. Another example would be a lesbian bat couple who can teach baby bats who have lost their parents to fly as, contrary to what many of you may think, flying for flying animals is neither effortless nor simple and may require considerable training before it can be mastered.

The thing is, there may be a lot of straight couples in the Philippines with lots of children but I’ve seen my share of straight couples who can’t even raise their children correctly. In the end, they breed like rats and have absolutely no idea of how to raise their children and, in a lot of cases even, lack the resources to give them any hope of a good future. I’m a straight guy myself but I’ve just seen too many straight couples in the country who lack any real love or respect for their children and treat them more like pets than human beings. I’m sure some of you here even remember a young woman who put a collar and leash on her baby and treated the poor girl like a dog.

Okay, before I continue, let’s go back to the Bible ladies and gentlemen. After all, I’m pretty sure that the detractors of this article will be using it a lot. I’m sure you know about the story of King Solomon and I’m sure the vast majority of those who have read the Bible know the story when there were these two women fighting over a baby. For those not in the know, this is what happened:

Solomon ordered that the baby be cut in half so that each woman would have at least half of the baby. One woman didn’t mind but the other begged the king to give the baby to the other woman just so that the baby would live. King Solomon then declared that the woman who begged for the baby’s life was the real mother as she was willing to sacrifice her own happiness so that her child may live.

Now I know I’m just taking the words out of context myself, not unlike the many Bible Bashers out there who are likely doing the same thing. However, I’d like to point out the possibility that the woman who begged for the baby’s life might not have been the baby’s biological mother at all. However, even is she wasn’t the one who actually gave birth to the baby, it was clear that she loved the baby enough to let someone else have it just so the baby may live. So even if she wasn’t biological mother, she was the baby’s true mother in spirit.

I’m going to say the same thing about homosexual couples and that, I’d rather give a child to a gay or lesbian couple who can give the child genuine respect, love and support than a straight couple who see them less as their own children and more like expensive pets…

  1. If people have issues with Manny P quoting the Bible and saying that same-sex marriage is wrong, then take it up with God, not the messenger. Manny was only quoting St. Paul.
The problem lies with this modern and silly way of thinking that if one opposes someone or something then he automatically is a hater. Manny was just calling a spade a spade. Same sex marriage is wrong, according to St. Paul, who was just echoing God’s voice.

    1. I am a bit lost here.

So, if I say “thou shall not kill”, is that then my opinion (meaning: I will never kill anybody myself and all those who do will be jailed) or am I just rephrasing a text from the bible but does not necesarily reflect my own opinion?

  2. Biased, one sided. Never tackles the side of pacuiao but you only show his failure not his ground just to prove you’re right.

  3. “Three (3) reasons why I approve of same sex relationships”

Does the word relationships include/imply marriage too? Or is that one step too much?

    1. I have the same question too.

I have two close girl friends who are into this kind of relationship (one of them is Lesbian), I said I’m cool with their relationship and still accept them as my friends, but I still informed them what it means when they “step over the line” and rest is up to them. I informed them, my job is done.

      1. @Jpau,
I cant creep in Grimwald’s mind. I think he used the word “relationships” deliberately.

What do you mean by “stepping over the line”?

A marriage is a relationship but a relationship is not neccessarily a marriage.

        1. @jpau5148,

Gays will have sex with each other and lesbians will have sex with each other. They also have libido. They are not different from you and me. The only difference is that in their case it will never lead to a pregnancy. So what?
And what lesbians and gays will do sexually, I can also do as heterosexual with my heterosexual partner (oral and anal sex).

        2. “I meant doing things done by married couples.”

As not married couple, I can do everything they do. Even procreate and start a family (legally and legitimate).

  4. Spam posting again Grimwald?

Ever heard of quality over quantity?

You really should learn from Ilda, she doesn’t spam post and her posts even though she posts ten times less than you are quality and thought provoking.

Kudos for trying, but don’t be a tryhard okay?

    1. Well, it was written on a whim. If that counts as “spam” to you, fine by me. However, it will never be good as real spam which I am eating right now.

      Would you like some?

  5. Manny Pacquiao’s strong stand against SSM indeed ruffled feathers. There is clearly nothing wrong with what Manny believes; he was simply stating his opposition against SSM. He is a man of religion and his conscience dictates to follow God’s will. He had his share of wrongs, like all of us, but to put Manny to shame when he is just echoing something of God’s, whoa, let’s put things in perspective. You got to give it to him for speaking the truth.

    1. Did GOD said in the bible “Call your fellow men who do not heed to my teachings as wild animals and condemn them as you wish.” ?

    2. That’s the only good point that Pacquiao has, which is buried by the huge amount of negativity produced by his statement. The People’s Champ shat on the bed real hard here and I am sitting on the other side of the room, eating popcorn and watch him get flak from not just the LGBT group but also from progressive thinkers, Catholics who doesn’t buy the homophobic stance of Vatican and people who found his statement as a disgusting garbage that no one would be arsed to clean up even if money’s involved.

I hate to tell you this but your Bible, or as I refer to it as bronze age mythologies and fairy tales compiled by multiple authors with no credibilities whatsoever in one shitty book is a nothing more but a lie that was proven wrong, debunked and considered as outdated, archaic and a hoax by people who can actually think.

While I don’t have any problems with same sex relationships and marriages and idiotic Bible thumping cavemen that tries to pass themselves off as the most special of them all, I do have problems with bigots, discriminatory bags of shit, imbeciles on high positions and rabid religious fanatics bent on pulling other people down to their level despite not wanting to be there in the first place.

Surprisingly, Manny fucking Pacquiao is a combination of all of those and I’m deeply disgusted and offended that that person got the position while people who can actually do a better job than him got sidelined by that spotlight stealing moron.

Whatever I’m doing in the bedroom and whoever I am doing it with is none of your God’s business and especially none of any of the world religion’s business. Why should your God even care about some person’s sexuality anyway? There are worse things in the world like slavery, AIDs, cold murder cases, human trafficking, ethnic genocide, incurable diseases, rape and other stuff that would require me to write a list about it and your God got his panties up tight when some guy who likes dudes more than women? That’s some priorities that your God have there, pal.

    3. KooBG,

Failipinos’ superstitious belief in God (or Allah) has done “Jack Shit” about changing their destructive ways towards their country and each other. The country is still “fucked up” in every sense of the word, and Manny Pacquiao–and his worldly and Godly hypocrisies–is a good example of it.

      Aeta

      1. Religion has done a lot of harm in the Philippines. They really need to stop following so blindly and start educating themselves. If they have access to facebook (which I think a lot of them do nowadays), then they have access to informative and educational material. They can and they should educate themselves and stop living in a bubble of a third world country.

  6. Homosexuality has been around a lot longer than the Bible, and Manny Pacquiao, and the Failipinos’ hypocrisy about their religion. The Failipino people need to stop listening to what this illiterate ‘wannabe-everything-besides-a boxer’ (an actor, a singer, a politician, a military officer, a businessman…and now…a preacher) has to say, and start paying closer attention of how to curtail our aristocratic and self-serving way of life that is destroying our country.

    1. Hi Aeta, now I’m curious when you said “Homosexuality has been around a lot longer than the Bible”

Can you post articles or references supporting this? Thanks!

      1. jpau5148,

I am not going to waste my time researching the internet to look for a “he says, she says” on the subject to satisfy your curiousity so you can lambast the evidence. Why don’t you do that yourself? All I know is there are scientific evidence out that proves all mammals–especially humans–have both hetersexual and homosexual tendencies. This is why we have have “straight shooter” relationships, as well shooters whose bullets curves before hitting their target. These evidence makes more sense than the individualized versions of the twisted fantasies we entertain–in order to give our lives meaning–from the Bible.

        Aeta

        1. “…so you can lambast the evidence” – now I’m not sure why you think that way. Thanks for the reply anyway.

  7. Homosexuals are people. They are not animals. Sexual orientation is the subject, I cannot still understand…it may be in the: genes; genome; brain; chemicals in the body; neurotransmitters; the way a child is brought up; way of life; etc…

If your God says:”it is evil”…then, it is your belief…

Most religions condemn homosexuality. It is an “aberration of nature”. However, I do not mean that homosexuals are freaks.

Let us love all kinds of people; including the unlovable…we are in this Planet Earth, not to put down anyone, because, he/she does not fit our human standards.

    1. 788Toro007Hyden99999.99,

It took me a while, too, to come to terms with other people’s homosexuality; and, you’re right. Homosexuals are human, too, with the same sexual needs as everybody. It just so happens that these people seek those needs with the same sex and not the opposite.

We can spend our whole lives figthing against homosexuality and it won’t stop; or, we could come to terms with it and learn to accept it as a part of life that has no clear explanation. As long as homosexual abide by the same moral and ethical rules of the majority of humanity, then I don’t have a problem what their sexual preferences are.

Idiot people like Manny Pacquiao and other Bible-thumpers have been schooled into delusions by their predesessors to look at life as “black” and “white,” and nothing in-between, to have some imagined control over it; but, we all know nothing in like is completely ‘this’ or ‘that’ and written in stone. There will always be ‘grey’ areas that we will–or never–understand and just have to accept as being a part of life.

      Aeta

      1. @Aeta:

I am straight, married , with three children.

Thank you for your understanding on our fellow human beings, who are also part of our humanity. Their “sins”, are they have different in sexual orientation…

  8. SSM is a hot button issue, no doubt. What I don’t understand is why a four-percent segment of the worldwide population wants now to dictate things on the 96%. Well, I think we do understand. Discrimination, abuse, maltreatment, and in many cases through out history, violence, have been their lot. Their demand for acceptance and equality is therefore expected. In that, I support the movement as WE SHOULD. The same way that we should NOT discriminate against anyone whether they be black, white, brown, yellow, or what have you.

However, it appears now it is not just equality they want. They want more, and in that, they come across now as trying to impose their mentality on the majority. Are they overdoing things?

Equality amongst humans can only be understood if there is a God. Without God, humans can’t be equal, and social conventions won’t be enough. Those are strong statements, but we see for example that slavery was part of the ancient cultures of the Greeks, Babylonians, Jews, Mayans, Indians, and Chinese. In fact, Plato argued in his Republic that there was something “natural” in some humans beings being greater, or higher, than others. Even in reading Paul in the Bible, one could sense a certain hesitancy in releasing a slave. Paul was of course culturally conditioned, but was beginning to understand a radical anthropology demanded by Christ. He therefore started in his small way that slaves should be treated as equal. It is one of the most radical thoughts Christianity introduced into the Roman Empire so that Christians were considered as upsetting a system and thus were deemed as rebels, and many had a brutal end.

But, even when Christianity became dominant in the Empire and most slaves found their freedom, the arguments of Plato remain influential. Indeed, if we just use our EYES, we have to admit there is inequality. But, Plato is wrong in this.

WE CAN ONLY SEE EQUALITY WITH OUR MIND. And, that is also the reason why it took a while to use the Bible as the reference point by many cultures to advance equality. It is after Bible exegetes have been able to decide which of the things in the Bible are divine positive law and which are those laws conditioned by culture and thus could be changed with time. Mind you that Islam still believes in slavery for they take everything in their Quran as divine positive law. Unhampered by dominant social conventions, their Sharia Laws are inflexible.

Now having that as a background on equality, let us nuance certain things.

    1. I cannot believe there are homosexual brutes. Only humans have intelligence and will, in other words, that which we call the soul. Brutes only have instincts and emotions, which humans only have. In that, one could already see that it would be ONLY HUMANS THAT COULD SEPARATE IN A SEXUAL COITUS THE PLEASURE FROM PROCREATION, or the unitive aspect from the procreative aspect. A male brute will not rape a female brute — it just can’t. But watch how male brutes will kill each other to get the privilege of being the one to ride the female brute IN HEAT. To show same sex brutes socializing with each other as homosexual tendencies is the biggest stretch, or lie, this movement has been propounding. To say that science will prove it one day is to elevate animal psychology into human psychology.

    2. One of the things that Christianity has been fighting from the start up to now are the Gnostic influences. Don’t think of this as an outside influence. Christianity has been fighting this also from within. At the risk of reduction, gnosticism is simply the elevation of the spiritual aspect of man to the detriment of the material aspect. The dichotomy that this inevitably promotes is NOT BIBLICAL. (Many Filipinos are influenced by this. Never mind I am poor here on earth, there is heaven anyway. This is lazy thinking. If man is made for eternal life, the struggle to get to heaven starts here and now and in all aspects, political, economical, sociological — everything to be exact. Heaven is not just about a part of man, it is about his totality. You are not a Christian when you are only inside the Church.) Right there, in the beginning of the Bible, the Genesis Chapter One, God created the universe and found his creation TO BE GOOD. Which means that the material aspect is as good as the spiritual aspect of man.

If material is good, what we do with our bodies has to be also good. Which means a sexual act is also good. In fact, if we consider the intense pleasure that accompanies a sexual act, then a SEXUAL COITUS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST GOODS. For this, it is incumbent upon man to maintain in sexual act its originality, its naturalness, its purity, etc, if it is to be the greatest good. For this reason, we call sodomy, masturbation, fornication, etc as perversions for it is human that introduced these. It is not original and natural even from an evolutionary perspective.

    3. Now, if material is good, then the body has to be good as the mind. If we are to be healthy, the body dictates the mind and the mind dictates the body. Now, what do we see in humans, there are only two: a penis and a vagina. I don’t think there are peginas or vanis or what not. Only two! Now, that is not denying that there are indeed those who are attracted to the same sex. That is a fact we can’t deny. Now, do we discriminate against them because they are only 4 among 100 of us. Of course, NOT. We should not. Because while man is a sexual being, man is not just made up of sex. Man is definitely much greater than his or her sexuality.

    4. While we should treat them as equal as explained from the foregoing, I think it is a folly to take them as a template of what is natural, for they are not. Statistics already says that. In this, I can’t understand why they should invade an institution that has been there since time immemorial. It is even pre-civilization if we take civilization as the ones with recorded history. WHY CAN’T THEY BE CONTENTED WITH CIVIL UNION? Surely, there are good legal minds that could craft civil union laws. Why marriage? It is not just a religious rite, it is a natural rite. Cultures and civilizations, if they are to survive, have to be discerning. Well ordered rites, not just rights, are critical in civilization.

    5. They are becoming like the feminist movement. Nobody can deny that we should support this movement. 100%!! But, when the feminist movement moved into Marxist Feminism, which tries to TOTALLY eradicate the difference between men and women, then even women started to get out of the movement. I think that is what they will see if they force some more beyond equality. In fact, I would not be surprised of a backlash from the majority, which is exactly what is happening after that SCOTUS ruling (I forgot the case name.) It is just that the liberal media are so slow in reporting these things.

    6. Take the groups of grown up children who grew under same sex parents that are coming up and are now talking. Some of their stories are heartbreaking. In Canada, they can’t even be that open as they could be jailed if they persist on talking.. But the stories are there. It is just that the mainstream media are not reporting them. Now, there is no denying that there are same sex parents who are better parents than heteros. But, we also cannot deny that BIOLOGICAL parents are still the BEST for children. If we deny that, then we have to admit that humans have really deteriorated into just emotional creatures, no longer cerebral.

  9. those things said are all political campaigns to get them for a seat in the senate. just like what the LP’s and its allies doing to Grace Poe. ‘if you can’t beat your enemy, join them’ so the people won’t vote for Grace.

why not take a DNA test of the King FPJ, Susan Roces, and Grace Poe? anyway, Grace Poe is a natural born pilipino, born on Philippine soil and she resides more than 10 years since birth preceding such elections in the Philippines before she went to the states to continue her studies.

  11. Cut to the chase: the writer is gay. He’s hurt by Manny’s words. He twists the words in the bible to fit his whim. Need I say more? Get real people!

    1. Actually, I’m what you’d call a DEPRAVED BISEXUAL… I’mma gonna bonk anything not fast enough to run from me…

Are you fast enough Boyd? ARE YOU FAST ENOUGH?

  12. A civil society can legalize anything all they want if they see it to be beneficial to it’s progress. There is a separation of church and state. But if Pinoys want to involve church doctrine in State policies, we will need to stick to the church constitution which says:

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

If the Catholic church doesn’t regard this scripture, maybe it should fire Paul from bring a Saint. Besides, in Carholicism the infallible Pope has pre-eminence over the written scriptures. Manny is not Catholic – so he just reads it as it is. He also thinks simply and does not over-interpret what’s written. In some way it could be good to have a person with basic common sense in the Senate for a change.

    1. I dont think its made legal to benefit progress. I think its a matter of human rights.

I always thought that the Philippines also had a clear seperation of state and church. Apparently not.

      1. Yup – PH society mixes anything and everything together and calls it “more fun”

Laws usually give more weight to progress and than human rights. For example, a law forbidding urination on a certain wall violates people’s right to relieve themselves on the spot.

        1. We do have a rule stating that one will get fined when urinating in public spaces. But to execute such a rule/law, a country needs “blue” (a cop) on every corner of the street. But before this rule/law we already had legal same sex marriage rights.

Back to what most commenters say:
To procreate is an individual right but as long as we go on procreating blindly (regardless of being a religious person or not), small countries like mine get literally overcrowded. Hence, its not practical.

Besides that, most people (being married or not married) in my country will procreate within their means. And that is the most sensible thing to do.

I cant remember who said it (4% of the global population is homosexual); in my country it is said to be 10%. Do I feel threatened? No.

On top of all that, more and more women decided/decides voluntarily and deliberately to stay single for ever (free will, free choice).

People here seem to forget that individuals have free will.

  13. I’ll just paste here what I put in the FB group:

I think yes, based on biology, heterosexuality is considered normal and homosexuality not normal. But should we limit our ideas of acceptable behavior based on what is “normal?” Sometimes, normal is not always right, and what’s right is not always normal. I would rather let the LGBTs have their thing.

One of the things fueling anti-gay sentiments is scare tactics, such as implying that all gays are sexual predators and are out to take your children. It’s similar to portraying all Muslims as terrorists. Both are false and are only meant to encourage violence against others who are not even doing anything to you. Some unscrupulous parties are taking advantage of this since it allows them to exercise more control over people. Be careful of people playing on our fears and who create needless ones.

I also wrote this thing about Sodom and Gomorrah before.

    1. Not all Muslims are terrorists. But OVERWHELMINGLY MAJORITY OF TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIMS. Their theology is inspired by their holy book that is consistent with Mohammad’s.

  14. Not all persons with same sex attractions (SSA) engage in homosexual behavior nor relationships. Courage Apostolate (www.couragerc.org) stands as a support for persons with SSA who strive to remain chaste through God’s grace and loved ones’ support.

Re-posting the 10 arguments by social science against same sex relationships given by the Family Research Council (http://www.frc.org/get.cfm?i=if04g01):

    1. Children hunger for their biological parents.

Homosexual couples using in vitro fertilization (IVF) or surrogate mothers deliberately create a class of children who will live apart from their mother or father. Yale Child Study Center psychiatrist Kyle Pruett reports that children of IVF often ask their single or lesbian mothers about their fathers, asking their mothers questions like the following:”Mommy, what did you do with my daddy?” “Can I write him a letter?” “Has he ever seen me?” “Didn’t you like him? Didn’t he like me?” Elizabeth Marquardt reports that children of divorce often report similar feelings about their non-custodial parent, usually the father.

    2. Children need fathers.

If same-sex civil marriage becomes common, most same-sex couples with children would be lesbian couples. This would mean that we would have yet more children being raised apart from fathers. Among other things, we know that fathers excel in reducing antisocial behavior and delinquency in boys and sexual activity in girls.

What is fascinating is that fathers exercise a unique social and biological influence on their children. For instance, a recent study of father absence on girls found that girls who grew up apart from their biological father were much more likely to experience early puberty and a teen pregnancy than girls who spent their entire childhood in an intact family. This study, along with David Popenoe’s work, suggests that a father’s pheromones influence the biological development of his daughter, that a strong marriage provides a model for girls of what to look for in a man, and gives them the confidence to resist the sexual entreaties of their boyfriends.

    3. Children need mothers.

Although homosexual men are less likely to have children than lesbians, homosexual men are and will be raising children. There will be even more if homosexual civil marriage is legalized. These households deny children a mother. Among other things, mothers excel in providing children with emotional security and in reading the physical and emotional cues of infants. Obviously, they also give their daughters unique counsel as they confront the physical, emotional, and social challenges associated with puberty and adolescence. Stanford psychologist Eleanor MacCoby summarizes much of this literature in her book, The Two Sexes. See also Steven Rhoads’ book, Taking Sex Differences Seriously.

    4. Evidence on parenting by same-sex couples is inadequate.

A number of leading professional associations have asserted that there are “no differences” between children raised by homosexuals and those raised by heterosexuals. But the research in this area is quite preliminary; most of the studies are done by advocates and most suffer from serious methodological problems. Sociologist Steven Nock of the University of Virginia, who is agnostic on the issue of same-sex civil marriage, offered this review of the literature on gay parenting as an expert witness for a Canadian court considering legalization of same-sex civil marriage:

Through this analysis I draw my conclusions that 1) all of the articles I reviewed contained at least one fatal flaw of design or execution; and 2) not a single one of those studies was conducted according to general accepted standards of scientific research.
This is not exactly the kind of social scientific evidence you would want to launch a major family experiment.

Steven Nock, affidavit to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice regarding Hedy Halpern et al. University of Virginia Sociology Department (2001).

    5. Evidence suggests children raised by homosexuals are more likely to experience gender and sexual disorders.

Although the evidence on child outcomes is sketchy, it does suggest that children raised by lesbians or homosexual men are more likely to experience gender and sexual disorders. Judith Stacey– a sociologist and an advocate for same-sex civil marriage–reviewed the literature on child outcomes and found the following: “lesbian parenting may free daughters and sons from a broad but uneven range of traditional gender prescriptions.” Her conclusion here is based on studies that show that sons of lesbians are less masculine and that daughters of lesbians are more masculine.

She also found that a “significantly greater proportion of young adult children raised by lesbian mothers than those raised by heterosexual mothers … reported having a homoerotic relationship.” Stacey also observes that children of lesbians are more likely to report homoerotic attractions.

Her review must be viewed judiciously, given the methodological flaws detailed by Professor Nock in the literature as a whole. Nevertheless, theses studies give some credence to conservative concerns about the effects of homosexual parenting.

    6. Same-sex “marriage” would undercut the norm of sexual fidelity within marriage.

One of the biggest threats that same-sex “marriage” poses to marriage is that it would probably undercut the norm of sexual fidelity in marriage. In the first edition of his book in defense of same-sex marriage, Virtually Normal, homosexual commentator Andrew Sullivan wrote: “There is more likely to be greater understanding of the need for extramarital outlets between two men than between a man and a woman.” Of course, this line of thinking–were it incorporated into marriage and telegraphed to the public in sitcoms, magazines, and other mass media–would do enormous harm to the norm of sexual fidelity in marriage.

One recent study of civil unions and marriages in Vermont suggests this is a very real concern. More than 79 percent of heterosexual married men and women, along with lesbians in civil unions, reported that they strongly valued sexual fidelity. Only about 50 percent of gay men in civil unions valued sexual fidelity.

    7. Same-sex “marriage” would further isolate marriage from its procreative purpose.

Traditionally, marriage and procreation have been tightly connected to one another. Indeed, from a sociological perspective, the primary purpose that marriage serves is to secure a mother and father for each child who is born into a society. Now, however, many Westerners see marriage in primarily emotional terms.

Among other things, the danger with this mentality is that it fosters an anti-natalist mindset that fuels population decline, which in turn puts tremendous social, political, and economic strains on the larger society. Same-sex marriage would only further undercut the procreative norm long associated with marriage insofar as it establishes that there is no necessary link between procreation and marriage.

This was spelled out in the Goodridge decision in Massachusetts, where the majority opinion dismissed the procreative meaning of marriage. It is no accident that the countries that have legalized or are considering legalizing same-sex marriage have some of the lowest fertility rates in the world. For instance, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Canada have birthrates that hover around 1.6 children per woman–well below the replacement fertility rate of 2.1.

For national fertility rates, see: http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/sw.html

For more on the growing disconnect between marriage and procreation, see: http://marriage.rutgers.edu/Publications/SOOU/SOOU2003.pdf

    8. Same-sex “marriage” would further diminish the expectation of paternal commitment.

The divorce and sexual revolutions of the last four decades have seriously undercut the norm that couples should get and stay married if they intend to have children, are expecting a child, or already have children. Political scientist James Q. Wilson reports that the introduction of no-fault divorce further destabilized marriage by weakening the legal and cultural meaning of the marriage contract. George Akerlof, a Nobel laureate and an economist, found that the widespread availability of contraception and abortion in the 1960s and 1970s, and the sexual revolution they enabled, made it easier for men to abandon women they got pregnant, since they could always blame their girlfriends for not using contraception or procuring an abortion.

It is plausible to suspect that legal recognition of homosexual civil marriage would have similar consequences for the institution of marriage; that is, it would further destabilize the norm that adults should sacrifice to get and stay married for the sake of their children. Why? Same-sex civil marriage would institutionalize the idea that children do not need both their mother and their father.

This would be particularly important for men, who are more likely to abandon their children. Homosexual civil marriage would make it even easier than it already is for men to rationalize their abandonment of their children. After all, they could tell themselves, our society, which affirms lesbian couples raising children, believes that children do not need a father. So, they might tell themselves, I do not need to marry or stay married to the mother of my children.

    9. Marriages thrive when spouses specialize in gender-typical roles.

If same-sex civil marriage is institutionalized, our society would take yet another step down the road of de-gendering marriage. There would be more use of gender-neutral language like “partners” and–more importantly–more social and cultural pressures to neuter our thinking and our behaviors in marriage.

But marriages typically thrive when spouses specialize in gender-typical ways and are attentive to the gendered needs and aspirations of their husband or wife. For instance, women are happier when their husband earns the lion’s share of the household income. Likewise, couples are less likely to divorce when the wife concentrates on childrearing and the husband concentrates on breadwinning, as University of Virginia psychologist Mavis Hetherington admits.

    E. Mavis Hetherington and John Kelly, For Better or For Worse. (W.W. Norton and Co., 2002) 31.

    10. Women and marriage domesticate men.

Men who are married earn more, work harder, drink less, live longer, spend more time attending religious services, and are more sexually faithful. They also see their testosterone levels drop, especially when they have children in the home.

If the distinctive sexual patterns of “committed” gay couples are any indication (see above), it is unlikely that homosexual marriage would domesticate men in the way that heterosexual marriage does. It is also extremely unlikely that the biological effects of heterosexual marriage on men would also be found in homosexual marriage. Thus, gay activists who argue that same-sex civil marriage will domesticate gay men are, in all likelihood, clinging to a foolish hope. This foolish hope does not justify yet another effort to meddle with marriage.

    1. I hear a lot of people say that homosexual relationships are the same as heterosexual ones. No, they’re really not and for many of the reasons stated above. There are also fundamental physiological reasons behind why homosexuals have exponentially more sexual partners in life than heterosexuals on average, and any fidelity that exists between homosexual couples are actually a very small minority. Marriage is a heterosexual innovation and a social order meant for the continual perpetuation of society, with the passing of names down to future generations so they can trace their lineage and bloodline from both parental ancestries. Add to this having a religious tradition and you can see the threads that hold civilization together. There’s a reason why many countries, especially those in Europe, are now suffering from declining birth rates and aging populations as the world becomes ever liberal. As for the Philippines, well it’s run by Failipinos (who are racially and genetically inferior to Europeans) so they will screw up virtually anything that is in their hands.

    2. This article easily demolishes Grimwald’s article. Please remove this because this is based on scientific study (sarcasm implied). No religious basis but on natural argument base on facts.

  15. One person’s opinion doesn’t dictate our lives, remember when slavery was a cause of debate between the pro slavery using the bible as their foundation, and the anti slavery just wanting to stop it because it is obviously inhumane, the history is repeating itself, nobody will win in a religion debate, but one thing is for sure, judgment is not our job, it is Gods, and we were ask to love one another and not harm one another. Why make life so complicated. For those who are repulsive of homosexual relationship, it is not as if you will engaged into one. And if homosexuality is a sin, so is being a sloth, lazy, liars, thief, false witness, being irresponsible providers, why make homosexuality like a greater sin above else, they are all mentioned in the bible anyway. I dont go to church because i see too many church goers that likes to bring down their fellow human. I talk to god look up at the sky or just in my room, asking for guidance, and thanking him for the blessing. Really life is simple, if we dont listen to pedophiles wearing white robes.

  16. I have to wonder at what point the Failipinos fighting to protect marriage will realize that traditional couples haven’t exactly been doing too good a job of it so far.

    1. I think they are turning their heads away when they see child beggars roaming the street and focus too much on the lesbian they saw holding hands, where are these children’s parents anyway. If pacquiao said that LGBT are worse than animals, well God said that those who do not provide for their relatives are worse than unbelievers,◄ 1 Timothy 5:8 , now we are over populated and neglecting our child which is kind of rampant nowadays is actually worse than atheist as the bible says… no wonder progressive countries take having a child seriously.l.and i always put in my mind ine verse in the bible, ” mind your own business and work with your hands” with all the gossipping happening at every corner of the street, arent we violating what Jesus Christ said. The catholic keyboard warriors, are only selecting verses that they could use as a weapon, which really saddens me. Why not read about how to improve your life, there are verses in the bible that is really great for principle upgrade. BTW, im a lesbian, that keep searching for the meaning of life, and why do i fall in love with a woman insteaf of a man, i despised myself for that first, but its like yourself is your own enemy, i understand if people are repulsive about it, heck im repulsive at people eating balut in front of me. But i guess what we request is acceptance by the man’s law, about conjugal properties and all the legalities same as heterosexual couple, i have no plan to force church to accept us, it is against your religion anyway, The problem is separation of church and state is nonexistent here, lgbt also pays taxes, so why is the government listens to those tax exempt churches. The logic is really backward.

      1. @Auric,
I am just wondering what will happen when you and your partner (in case you have one) will come to my country and have a legal civil wedding, return back to your home country and will your government recognize that wedding? I guess not or will it?

Maybe you should consider doing it and file a complaint/motion at an international court claiming that your human rights are not recognized/respected. That will deliver a shock wave in the Philippines. Maybe you can be that pioneer, that frontrunner. And somebody has to do it. That is the only way to get some change. All laws were not given to us, we had to “fight” for them.

        Regards, Robert (atheist, heterosexual)
