The senselessness of Kae Davantes’s murder

kae_davantesThe case of murdered advertising executive Kae Davantes has riveted the nation for days. In a country where crime is rife and, often, goes unpunished, there is something about Davantes’s case that makes it stand out. Perhaps it is her place in society, a successful young professional, the way her fortunes changed in the blink of an eye, supposedly plucked from a tony spot in Manila, and the indignity in the way she was treated and her remains disposed of after a lifetime of presumably being raised with such considered and measured care by her parents.

Most homicides are perpetrated by people known by the victim — a jilted lover, a jealous rival, an estranged spouse, someone the victim owes money to, whatever. Indeed, initial news reports that came out following her death speculated that Davantes may be a victim of a crime of passion. People who try to come to terms with a horrible crime often would like to make sense of it. Knowledge that a horrible crime was committed because of a human motive often helps us come to terms with it.

But the most unnerving are crimes where the circumstances surrounding the crossing of paths of the perpetrator and the victim is random. According to initial accounts following the recent arrest of one of the suspects in this crime, this crime was of that sort.

The [suspect], whose identity was not immediately disclosed, admitted he and four other members of a robbery-holdup group took Davantes early morning of Saturday, Sept. 7.

The motive? “Napag-trip-an lang,” the street lingo for doing something on a whim, suggesting that Davantes was the victim of random violence.

In short, the killing of Davantes was senseless. She died much the same way people die in those US school shooting sprees — because she happened to be chosen by her killer randomly. Though one cannot regard anger, jealousy, or fear as justifiable enough motives to kill another human being, at least those motivators can be considered to be human. On the other hand, one would be hard-pressed to finding anything even remotely human in an act of killing “on a whim”.

I am still hoping that evidence will be found that would suggest that there was a deeper motive behind Davantes’s killing than “napag-tripan lang” that would make it easier to come to terms with this horrid crime.

  1. God works in mysterious ways.

My only concern is if she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. If she did, then she is in heaven now. If not, then she is in hell now with Steve Jobs (a devout Buddhist), Mohandas Gandhi (isa ka pa), John Lennon (bigger than Jesus pala ha?), Confucius (born before Christ, sorry ka na lang), and many others.

You can’t argue with scripture. You cannot argue against the passage below. Either you with us or you are against us. Choose wisely 🙂

    John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

    1. I also know that God is a just God, and will not let the guilty leave unpunished. Then justice should be served by capturing and punishing those who killed her. Funny that as a “pastor,” you missed that and decided going over the victim’s sins. Perhaps it’s better to say that the killers will go to hell themselves.

      1. Chino,

        Ulitin ko lang ha:

        John 14:6

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This means that the killers still have a chance for forgiveness and enter heaven if they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

I know it sounds absurd. But I don’t make the rules. I just follow the Bible, which is infallible. God does work in mysterious ways.

        God Bless you.

        1. I know this talk, the ‘saved’ kind of talk. You are a pathetic excuse for a pastor. The God I know, is just. No bad deeds will go unpunished, whether saved or not. Put that in your minute brain.

        2. “I just follow the Bible, which is infallible.”

Any proof that the Bible is infallible? Because as far as I have been taught, the Bible is written by humans. True that God and the Holy Spirit worked in them, but who’s to say they didn’t insert their own point of view of the events that happened? Can you honestly tell me with undeniable evidence that these writers did not exaggerate anything?

        3. Uulitin ko rin, “Pastor.”

“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?” Luke 18: 6-8

Even if the killers may suddenly want to repent, they have to be made to follow the law of the land, which is to answer for their crimes.

“…if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.” (Rom 13:4-5)

        4. Jesus was a man on earth, apparently there’s not much proof other than stories though. The 10 Commandments state it clearly that God is a jealous God and you will have no others this includes sons, daughters ect… the stuff in the bible is written by profits, if we believe in men on earth then were no better than the other religions that also do the same pray through others when your supposed to pray to God, not the holy spirit ect… ect… it’s not in the commandments.

    2. “What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by
action, is dead.” – James 2:14-17

Even God Himself, the affectionate Father, will not love a useless child. Accept Jesus and do nothing about it but brag as if it is the only way, is equivalent to just showing off virtue without action that produces real results. You are a Christian alright, a Confucian-Kantian-Christian, that is, one who believes in means and means alone, regardless of results. And that makes you a useless son, in which, even though you are saved(as if you are really saved), you won’t last through Judgment Day, because you are completely USELESS.

      1. Gorby,

That is why our congregation is busy meeting at Starbucks many times a week. We are always doing fund raising projects to get cash for our missionary work in Bali Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. It not easy traveling to all these exotic destinations but this is the “sacrifice” I do to spread the Gospel of Christ. I will be in Bali next week. Surfs UPPPPP!

        1. Then you Pastor Ernie will go to hell as well. Remember this verse? See you in HELL!
          “Luke 6:37”
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

        2. I checked Pastor Ernie’s expense report. Apparently his “missionary work” in Bali involved carousing around with three rather well-endowed Hindu women and spending USD15,000 of his flock’s donations for a one-night stay at the Hilton.

As for actual missionary work, let’s just say that throwing Chick tracks onto Bali’s sidewalks doesn’t quite earn Ernie a spot in My kingdom.

        3. “As for actual missionary work, let’s just say that throwing Chick tracks onto Bali’s sidewalks doesn’t quite earn Ernie a spot in My kingdom.”

Chick tracts? Well, fornicate all kinds of duck, we have a closet fundie!

        4. @Pastor Ernie

As expected, you are indeed a Confucian-Kantian-Christian. Starbucks is too much of a meeting place for those who claim to be real servants of Christ. The real servants of Christ meet anywhere, even at the most modest homes(read the Book of Acts). “Servants” of Christ who go to lavish places like Starbucks or anything similar to that are not real servants of Christ, but are rather, servants of Confucius and his wasteful “means-justify-the-end” philosophy(otherwise known as the doctrine of Li/禮 or in Kantian terms as the categorical imperative). I will watch you obey God and go poor due to your wasteful style of pastoring(A no-no for any pastor). God won’t save you from your wastefulness.

    3. Wow… way to make an irrelevant, completely insensitive and unnecessary point… congrats! It’s people like you that’s making me lose faith in the Church.

Note that the “Church” is what I use to describe the people and institution respecting Christianity. Therefore I make no attacks on the religion, just the “fan club” that seems to act less human for the sake of their religion.

All I can say is that this is definitely a sad scenario that, in all honesty will not have any form of “comfort”… not even what ChinoF mentioned about giving a more sensible meaning to her death. Let’s leave at that, no need to drag the talk of religion into the mix.

Also, did you REALLY have to take a jab against other religions? Really? What’s the point?

      1. PS: Before I forget to mention, yes I am a Christian since birth. At first I was baptized because I studied in a Christian school… but over the years I can say I have made a personal relationship with God and Jesus… so don’t think I am not one ok?

        1. You are very much okay.

God loves us so much that he sacrificed his only son our Lord Jesus Christ to SAVE US FROM OUR SINS.

You are on the right path. Just stay away from Buddhism, Islam, and Atheists.

          God bless you.

      2. One last comment, in case someone mistakes something in the original comment

“fan club” is just me pointing out the “fanatics”… basically idiots that have a “holier-than-thou” mindset and will stop at nothing to prove that their religion is the right way… except actually DO something that religion teaches them to do.

    4. pastor you are a bigot..God has many forms and names..Jehovah,Allah, Buddha..etc One cannot dispute theirs is a better God..but to be identified with the likes of you..id most likely hesitate to be called a Christian openly..your version of Christianity most likely brought the nation, ( priding to be the predominantly Christian country in Asia ) down..it was not God working mysteriously who fielded all this Christian politicians in position looting the country..i can see you being the typical christian who goes to church every other week..takes communion..raising your hands praying our Farther but the moment you step out of church getting in your car with you family..you could not even allow the car in the intersection to pass before you.And you do not raise funds by begging for money from others..you fork out what you have and give.. you are a beggar using other peoples money to consume a frappucino in starbucks..hyuk hyuk..

    5. You can’t argue with scripture? Is that right?
(I won’t argue about what Christ said, just that you misunderstand what he said.) But anything that is not from him, like the old testament…HA!Jewish Rubbish!
Good luck with that Padre, any time you want to come and join the secularists who live in the non-religious world(where you are accepted regardless of your superstitions as long as you leave them home when you join us), we wont be hard to find!

      1. You sound like an Atheist/Agnostic. This means your soul is in danger.

God loves us so much that he sacrificed his only son, our Lord Jesus Christ, TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS.

I sometimes am baffled why people do not understand this simple truth. God is so GENEROUS. He sacrificed his only son!!!

        I will pray for you.

        God bless.

        1. @Pastor Ernie

An Atheist/Agnostic who knew how to work the country will be much better off than a servant of Christ who is completely useless in running a State.

God is so generous that we as a people are committing parasitism towards God – a very big sin(from the book of Malachi, concerning man robbing God). That in itself is punishable by death, but God forgives us through His biggest gift – His Son. Which, in turn, turns us into bigger parasites that use Jesus as our license to do evil just because we are saved. Might as well disassociate oneself from God – at least one will not commit corruption – and thus, a bigger sin towards God!!

        2. Thanks Padre, I only say the ‘book of the jews’ is rubbish. I aspire to be Christ-like, if aspiring anyone, he is THE ONE to emulate. Christ rejected the Jews ways and was crucified for it, why so many Church’s in the Philippines have Sunday sermon’s based on the ‘old testament’ is beyond me! I reject the ‘old testament’ is all I said. I UNDERSTAND, and maybe it is YOU who doesn’t, but no matter:Whatever floats your boat! To doubt other people’s interpretations of religious writings is not to lack understanding.

    6. You are the epitome of what is wrong with Catholicism, or at least, Catholics. Isn’t this religion supposed to be about loving your neighbor and not being judgmental? I wouldn’t want to go to hell, because I know that’s where people like you will end up. Not Gandhi, not Jobs, not Davantes… YOU. To use this girl’s murder to spout your self-righteous bullshit is just disgusting. I really hope you’re a troll.

      1. Ok, after reading the rest of your comments, I am convinced you are a troll. I don’t know if you’re a bitter Atheist (or any other religion, for that matter) who wants to smear the image of Catholicism or if you’re a sad, pathetic person who really believes in those views yet you are aware of how extremist and socially-unacceptable it is, so you hide behind the facade of a troll to vent out your bigoted “opinion” and not feel a lick of guilt afterwards. Either way, you’re a fucking cunt.

        1. You are misguided. Why don’t you join us at the Greenbelt Starbucks tomorrow afternoon. I will show you how the Holy Spirit can make us SPEAK IN TONGUES!

If this does not impress you, we have another Pastor who can see the future (I’m not joking — he really says he can and why would he lie?)

          I will pray for you.

          God Bless.

        2. Sorry, but I just have to say that all this “speaking in tongues” dreck doesn’t do anything for Me. What’s the point of yakking it out in some pointless language that doesn’t mean anything, anyway?

If you really want to spread My word out to the world (which I created, by the way), why don’t you get out of your coffee-addled comfort zone and feed some hungry kids out in the street?

        3. @Lord God
Feeding kids or any hapless beings out in the streets is useless, according to the philosophers Shang Yang and Han Fei Zi. Charity(any form) will turn them into parasites, and will weaken them further. Why not teach the kids how to work for their needs, so that they will not commit parasitism towards society? Because parasitism makes the State weak(applies to Heaven too) and if the State is weak, it will be destroyed. Thus, the saying, “It is the destiny of the weak to be overthrown by the strong”.

    7. What a sick comment from you Pastor Ernie. Devoid of logic, reason, and facts, yet fully secular discrminate. You should be ashamed of your resolve and opinion and children should stay away from people like you. My 50 cents, stay away from religious thinking and you will find much more sense!

        1. And by faith your mean that “faith” of yours is what God taught? You’re once again overdosing yourself with too much caffeine from drinking Starbucks you false pastor.

        2. No thanks, I do not need your prayers and if I need God’s blessing, I will ask him myself. I don’t really like asking self righteous religious people for prayer favors when they are insensitively discriminate to others who are not alligned to theirs. Very very bad. Logically and ethically incorrect. Your “faith” inspires hate. No thanks and will never embrace bilnd faith and will make sure my children does not too. You are a very bad example.

    8. “You Can`t argue with scripture” That is correct, you cannot argue with madness.
You sir, is part of the problems of this world, no way a solution.

Personally,, i think you are a fucking idiot!

  2. Pastor Ernie, the Bible also says “you will be judged according to the light you have received.” Yes, Jesus is the way, and he showed us the way. No one can say who goes to heaven or hell, certainly not you. Only God knows. Enoch and Moses were born before Christ, just as Confucius was, and they are in heaven. Think about it.

      1. God loves us so much that he sacrificed his only son, our Lord Jesus Christ, TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS.

I sometimes am baffled why people do not understand this simple truth. God is so GENEROUS. He sacrificed his only son!!!

I will pray for you all. May you see the truth and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

        God bless.

  3. “Having a trip” is what some idiots do; raping a girl for fun and pleasure. Thing is, the girl saw the guys’ faces and might rat on them. So they kill her to prevent that. That’s the usual explanation on desperate “trippers.” Random indeed, but when you realize how some people act to avoid discovery… well, you know.

  4. I have exactly the sane sentiment. The case has become some sort of COMEDY. They’re fooling the people. Sharing what I posted on the Justice for KAE Facebook page:

The news stories on the capture of the first 2 suspects are all BULLSHIT. This is all orchestrated. People don’t believe that this group of 5 men killed Kae. Using this group of 5 men as a scapegoat or fall guy is the NBI’s and the real killers’ easy way out, to get the case closed immediately. People believe Kae personally knew her killers. This story, in particular is the most “bullshit” I’ve read so far => http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/492233/nbi-agent-kae-davantes-helped-us-find-her-killers
Nagbubuhat ng sariling bangko ang NBI. The way Kae’s uncle expressed his gratitude to the NBI is also way too much. He sounded like he wants to get this case closed immediately with the group of 5 men pronounced guilty.

  5. Whatever their motive was, this crime should make the government/congress consider bringing back the death penalty. These criminals should be put to death.

    1. Your soul is in danger. Let go of your fear. Let go of your anger. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

I will pray for you brother.

      God bless.

      1. “Pastor,” you tend to forget that ALL humans are My sons and daughters. Not just Jesus.

If anything, I want you to pray for your own soul and try not to drag Me into your holier-than-thou tirades.

        1. @Lord

Let him fall through his own stupidity, do not let him commit parasitism towards You in his usual Confucian-Kantian way of life. His Confucian-Kantian lifestyle will enslave, impoverish and kill him.

  6. Hilarious. A well written article that questions the human condition….

And you guys let it be sidetracked by some random misguided religious nut peddling beliefs on an online comments board.

OP: sadly some people really do just want to inflict harm on others on a whim. Yes, i agree that having a proper motive would at least add some rhyme or reason to the way these murderers acted… But the world is not a place that always offers padding to the blow… Not even padding as simple as a criminal motive.

On a deeper level… Think of how truly cruel this world can really be when there are criminals with absolutely no motive.

Simply human beings like you and me who are ok with killing people on a whim. They walk amongst us daily, go to restaurants, watch the same movies etc etc. Unnerving wouldn’t you say?

    1. Just spreading the Gospel brother. If you don’t like it then prepare yourself for an eternity in Hell with Steve Jobs, John Lennon, Buddha, Albert Einstein, and Angelina Jolie.

I will pray for you. I don’t really want to but its my duty to try and “save” even people like you. Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

      God bless.

      1. For your information, last time I checked Angelina Jolie’s still alive. Buddha has his own realm somewhere outside My dominion, so it’s pointless to assume he’s in Hell.

And by the way, stop using My name in vain; I surely don’t want people thinking that I just spread the word “bless” around like supermarket-quality mayo.

      2. @Pastor

Kantian! Doing your duty just because it’s your duty will kill you. Now I wonder whether your God is indeed Christ or Kant.

  7. RIP MS.K., the POS that did this remind me of the ‘nuggas’ in the states. think they are tough guys but when you get them by themselves and break their nose with a good punch in the face they turn into li’l girls. A perfect reason to bring back the death penalty, the POS that murdered this young Lady do not deserve to breathe the same air as other non-‘anti-social’ people do.

and PLEASE, to say “she died in much the same way as the victims in those in those US school shooting sprees” do.. Is not even close. Those killings are long planned out, shoot em ups that end in the same place they start. This was sendeless, YES, and she died, YES….BUT THAT IS WHERE THE SIMILARITY ENDS! Read what allegedly happened to this young Lady and how the US school shootings take place and it is obvious the two ‘crimes’ could not be more dis-similar.
    RIP Young Lady.

  8. With all due respect to the writer, no death from murder can be considered sensible. Maybe we should look at the bigger picture, and ask questions like why can such crimes be so easily be committed, despite the usual idea in our society that the higher your place in life, the further you are from harm? What about those people who are not as fortunate as Ms. Davante’s family, how will they keep themselves safe?

I think you know now, if you didn’t know before, that it doesn’t matter how good your life is, it doesn’t matter how high your place is the social hierarchy that we have always kept intact. It doesn’t even matter that you are aware of these things that are happening, because you are still exposed to the same risks as everyone else.

Whether those risks should be brought to reality by people due to dire need, or by circumstances that should have been prevented by someone who is responsible, that’s what you should ask. Don’t bother looking for a deeper reason, hindi telenovela tong kwento na to.

Yes, she probably was a random victim, so deal with it. It happens. Now ask yourself what you can do to keep it from happening again.

    1. Did you read the Bible?

God ordered Joshua and his people to kill every man, woman and child in Canaan.

      Joshua 10:40

Thus Joshua struck all the land, the hill country and the Negev and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left no survivor, but he utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.

Thus Joshua struck all the land, the hill country and the Negev and the lowland and the slopes and all their kings. He left no survivor, but he utterly destroyed all who breathed, just as the LORD, the God of Israel, had commanded.

      1. Wow Pastor! You quoted the Bible very well.. But do you really think this suspects were commanded by God? Come on! That doesn’t apply to our time. The Bible is the word of GOD so no one would really understand the real meaning of it. So don’t take the meaning word by word. It is much much deeper than that..

      2. @Ernie

And what do you imply, that God decided to pass judgement on Kae by invoking the theives to rob her and kill her?

    1. Only the POPE has such divine authority. If Bishop KJ is speaking in behalf of the POPE, then he is correct.

If you question the authority of the POPE then you are not a good Catholic.

But if you can’t abide by the strict rules of the Catholic Church, you can always be a “born again” Christian. We take away the middle-man so everyone can have a personal relationship with Jesus. We also like to hang out at Starbucks and have many cool parties and travel to exotic places to spread the Gospel of Christ.

If you are interested in joining, we will be at the Greenbelt Starbucks tomorrow afternoon for a special seminar: “How an I-Phone can make you a better Christian.”

Justice for ms. Davantes.

    1. gits,

Nasa Greenbelt Istarbaks kami bukas. Sali na kayo–JOIN! Sali na kayo–JOIN!

  10. Pastor Ernie, its people like you why many stay away from religion specially Christianity. Ika nga “God please save me from your followers”

    1. I won’t give up on you because our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, taught me how to love everyone and that includes you.

I love you barbero and that is why I will always pray for you.

      God bless.

      1. Could just shut up you damn cultist, using God as a wall to protect your lies and false words. You only take bible literally and never for its meaning or value, so shut up. Its people like you that like to screw with the minds and innocence of others. I see no Christian value in what you say or what your doing. Trolling or not, take your so called “love” for all and gtfo. Thank you jerk off.

  11. This Pastor is misguided by Bible. Yes, you know a lot about the scriptures but that doesn’t make you a Bible expert. Even Pope Francis is quoted “Who am I to judge?” God is a just God. Christians, Islam, Jews and even non-believers will be judged not by what they believed..

PS. This pastor needs to attend REAL seminars!. The Pastor is definitely confused by his beliefs..

Why feed a known troll?

    1. Religious extremists must confronted with reason to expose their stupidity.

If you call me stupid for standing up against religious fanatics (troll or no troll) then you are just as worse as the troll you accuse.

If you get turned off do you think I care? My life would not change if you have a heart attack tomorrow.

      1. Lol you’re a fool if you think the troll pastor is a religious fanatic.

He’s just trolling, and hoping dim witted Filipinos respond in hopes of derailing the topic.

    2. @Silaar

If you think the articles are “magaganda”, then why don’t you just ignore the comment section if it’s turning you off? Or you can help elevate the level of discussion above the trolling by writing something other than “Nakaka turn-off naman yung karamihan sa GRP crowd”.

Some trolls do have a point. You just need to keep an open mind.

      1. Yes trolls do have a point, and that is derailing any topic with a potentially intelligent discussion into petty insults thrown amongst all participants, and this somehow inflates their ego. Pathetic, yes, but that’s how they should work.

That’s why the comment section of this active blog irks me lately. The moderators are not even trying/take too long to remove those comments that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. No, don’t leave them to suffer shame – that’s what they want you to do all along. Ignore them, report them, delete them.

They’re better off spending the rest of their lives creating accounts anyway.

        1. Did it ever occur to you that some troll comments might not be really trolls but are honest to goodness brainwashed bunch? If the purpose of these blog is to “educate” the misinformed then let these troll comments stay as it will be “educational” to those bunch. If this blog is able to change even just one viewpoint of a misinformed guy then it has served it’s purpose, troll or not.

        2. They may have been, but please “educate” them in a place that has something to do with the topic. Also, do that without resorting into insults, since what you’re really doing isn’t “educating” them, but simply asserting your superiority.

Therefore, it is best to assume that these people aren’t those “brainwashed people” of which you speak, and are people of a lower form than them: trolls. As I suggested, the best course of action is to moderate the comment section well so that it sticks to the relevance.

…And now we’re going out of topic. I welcome the moderator deleting these comments too, for the sake of a relevant discussion.

        3. These are “good” for the cause trolls I believe – they’re comment whether sincere or not it increases contrast between “them” and GRP. If you ask me – that is good.

  13. This is frightening s#%t. My dad who was a lawyer knew a lot of people like these who just kill without any real motive at all- when you’re all hopeless and life around you is just plain bleak, nothing anymore matters- all of it becomes meaningless and trivial. It’s just more fun to die in the Philippines.

But I too am hoping that there’s more to this story than for what is just telling us for now. I just wish, though, that these guys had done such acts on our corrupt congressmen and everyone in the senate- they so deserve some threats for the dirty deeds they’d done to exploit the people.

  14. Just love the comment trail..

I believe Pastor Ernie is just tripping and is laughing his heart out from getting such heated responses. If not, well you know we live in a sick world.

Regarding Kae though, I live near her village. In fact her car was dumped a walking distance away from my house. I don’t know about you but crime here in Las Pinas is pretty prevalent/blatant. Home got robbed a couple months ago and the crime will remain unsolved like the rest. If they can’t even get the Ampatuan trial going, how can an average juan expect any justice right? Police got all excited only because of the reward.

    This is a sick country.

Appreciate the stimulating exchange of thoughts here; getrealphilippines in general. Just stumbled into this site today. Quite a breath of fresh air unlike the other blogs where people keep on quoting cliches in an attempt to hide their rudimentary knowledge of history, science et al.

Anyway, the above being said. And though I appreciate a good exchange of thoughts every now and then, I was hoping if anybody here is actually actively pursuing social reforms. And please not the feeding the poor type. We already have enough of that. An organized social reform pursued by an elite few whose ardent desire is to break the glass of convenience and lethargy and perhaps in a fleeting moment, get a glimpse of heaven before we finally pass away.
