As if the bad reputation copped by the Philippines for its world-renowned institutionalised corruption weren’t enough, the country has also been flagged as one of a number of countries “considered havens for ‘Islamist terrorist ideologies’.”
Reports of “leaked” policy papers formulated under the office of former Australian Liberal Party leader Sussan Ley “would have planned to stop immigration from the occupied Palestinian territories, Afghanistan, parts of the Philippines, parts of Lebanon and Somalia.”
Other regions that would’ve been affected by the policy included Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Yemen.
[…]
The policy would’ve also included an “Australian values” statement that new immigrants would need to adhere to. Immigrants found to be in breach of the statement would face immediate deportation.
Presumably, “parts of the Philippines” refers to its southern regions where violent clashes between Islamic militants and the Philippine military as well as terrorist activities perpetrated by extremists persist. Perhaps even more specific is a region known as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The BARMM is governed under an agreement that originated from a peace deal the Philippine Government under the late former president Benigno Simeon “BS” Aquino III entered into with the terrorist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Small surprise then that a region that hosts the political child of a deal with the Devil is now in a list that includes a who’s-who of the world’s failed states.

The MILF are responsible for the massacre of 44 elite officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF) in 2015. The final report of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Board of Inquiry (BOI) organised to investigate this massacre is available and can be downloaded from the official PNP website here. The massacre transpired in the midst of the execution of “Oplan” Exodus personally overseen by then president Aquino which aimed to “neutralize high value targets (HVTs)” consisting of international terrorists wanted by the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Offering the MILF “autonomy” to govern and “keep the peace” over a big chunk of Mindanao back then was like giving a blowtorch to a two year old to play with and then leaving him to watch over your house alone. It just did not make sense. Now Filipinos from all over are tainted by this scourge of extremism that continues to fester in their south.
