Equally baffling and not surprising is the support expressed by a known front of the Communist Party of the Philippines, the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Solidarity of Drivers and Operators’ Organizations Nationwide) or PISTON. In a published statement, the group called the U.S. to keep their “hands off” Venezuela. This follows the recent military strike ordered by President Donald Trump and the successful capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro.
The statement is pretty typical as far as Filipino communist blurbs go…
PISTON condemns in the strongest possible terms the recent military aggression and illegal seizure of power by the United States government, led by Donald Trump, in Venezuela. We stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan working class in resisting this naked display of imperialist banditry led by the US imperialist regime.
The US government’s mask has completely fallen off. Donald Trump’s declaration that the US will “run” Venezuela and that US oil companies will “start making money” confirms that this is not about “democracy” or “drugs.” This is a desperate, violent scramble to secure the world’s largest oil reserves for the profit of American monopoly capitalists. It is a blatant act of plunder disguised as a “police action.”
And, of course, no communist blurb is complete without this original…

STOP US INTERVENTION IN VENEZUELA!
JUNK THE OIL DEREGULATION LAW!
DOWN WITH IMPERIALISM!
LONG LIVE INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY!
What is it with commie rhetoric? And these people wonder why they remain a mere fringe political subculture. They seem to issue the most tone-deaf messaging in the Philippines’ political landscape!
So too with Akbayan for its part which, in a post on X, crows that their mob “stands firmly with the people of Venezuela in their fight for justice, freedom, human rights, sovereignty, and democracy.” As such, Akbayan, “call on the Trump regime to abandon all plans to illegally run Venezuela, cease all its hostile actions, and to withdraw all its military forces and assets from the country and the wider region.” Trump must be trembling all over.
Not surprising, yes? But here’s the baffling part. They make like the US agenda being “all about oil” is news to us. But of course it is. Filipino commies seem to have been living under a rock over the last 200 years! Why invade a Third World shithole if it has nothing to offer, right? Consider how the US simply cut the Philippines loose back in 1946 when it already had the inertia to keep it within its orbit. It’s simple, really. The Philippines was not worth the trouble.
All the Philippines has are 120 million intellectually-stunted irrevocably-corruptible people who are all members of cults of personality. Venezuela, on the other hand, has one of the planet’s largest petroleum reserves. It’s easily a no-brainer. A Venezuelan colony is an asset. The Philippines is a liability not worth the $100,000 per hour per aircraft cost of a jet fighter mission.
When will the Philippines’ thought leaders understand that “international law” is a mere illusion — that, ultimately, weak nations only exist because powerful ones allow them to. That, when a resource crunch hits, the only clear option is to take what one can take. It’s that simple and the only consistent order of things over all of human history.

Without international laws there will inevitably be world wars, and maybe also the armageddon.
And this is the reason why some who are the smart ones, are for International Law… And others who are against international law are the stupid/evil ones in the world.
Using benign0’s simple logic, it’s perfectly acceptable for some deranged hungry man to invade somebody’s home/space, and then take what he could for himself. What does your wife and your children think about you, benign0? Mass insanity is real.
Thing is, when you use a word like “acceptable” it is necessarily valid only within the context of the world order made possible by “international law” which, we might remind ourselves is a man-made construct. Like everything man-made, it remains to be seen whether “international law” will persist as a globally-accepted notion. The idea of the “acceptability” of the US incursion into Venezuela is therefore not an absolute, merely relative, and very likely temporary.
What remains absolute is basic economics — demand and supply. Where demand dwarfs supply (such as that for energy) behaviours will be shaped accordingly. That natural order is not man-made and the persistence of that natural law and the behaviours it shapes is the only order guaranteed to persist.
benign0, i like to bet with anyone that you will be one of the first to regret having this notion that it is better to have jungle law than “man-made” law.
Am I correct to think that you are also a MAGA-man?
I will bet with anyone that benign0 will be one of the first to regret having this notion that it’s better to have jungle law than man-made law. He’s likely also one who kisses Trump’s ass which he has a picture of in his bedroom before his bedtime.
What makes you think I prefer “jungle law” over man-made law?
Because you criticize the “commie rhetoric” and Akbayan’s post on X regarding their support for Venezuela and against US aggression. Furthermore you are saying that “international law is a mere illusion” and “the only clear option is to take what one can take”.
That’s a clear indication that you prefer jungle law over man-made law. Unless ofcourse you write only for the sake of writing something and does not care about the content of your own writings.
See, all of that are just the facts being stated. Having a preference for one fact or another is a personal choice. The assumptions you make about mine are yours to make. However, it doesn’t matter what mine or anyone’s preferred narrative is. Options change with leaders, empires and world orders. Rhetorical fads change even more frequently. Through all that, what persists are the facts of human nature and natural law.
so you are saying that it’s a fact that international law is a mere illusion. Give me a break! You’re clearly only trying to avoid admitting your faults openly.
I think the evidence is staring you in the face — permanent members of the so-called “UN Security Council” all take action outside of “international law” whenever their respective national interests suit.
What then is your argument to the contrary; that “international law” isn’t an illusion? It appears to be a law in effect but the reality shows otherwise. That seems to fit any definition what an illusion is, doesn’t it?
Benign0, No. It doesn’t.
Illusion by one definition mean “something that is believed to be true or real but that is actually false or unreal”.
Because international law is frequently violated does not mean international law is false or unreal. It is in fact a real thing.
Exactly my point. You yourself say here: “something that is believed to be true or real”. The notion of “international law” is one such. It exists only because a critical mass of people believe or will it to be.
History has proven that there is no guarantee of the persistence of such a critical mass of believers. This is why monarchies or even entire religions, to cite just a small handful of examples, disappear or decline. Without believers, cults and belief systems simply go extinct.
You are wrong about “It exists only because a critical mass of people believe or will it to be.”
Something that is a fact is not less of a fact because less people believe it is a fact. If only one person believe that earth is a spherical and the rest believe it is flat, that does not mean it is a fact that earth is flat.
So let’s say (for argument’s sale) ZERO people believe in “international law”. Would it still exist as a fact of life?
Demand and supply? Is your head buried in the sand? We can literally have better sources of energy when science isn’t held hostage by the same crooks who maintain the upperhand through coercion, not through any real economic skill or intelligence. And since you’ve written about Filipino stunting, why don’t you try to study why nations with resources are deliberately stunted.
Some good reading from a reliable channel used by recognised commentators…
Venezuela attack, Greenland threats and Gaza assault mark the collapse of international legal order
They rebranded post world war 2, but their actions increasingly reveal the same code. They take symbols of power from humble cultures then regard themselves as supreme. They destroy the very civilization they claim to rule over.
Facts of human nature and natural law… Well, guess who imposed the present order, if you can call it that, on everybody? Guess who has the scarcity mindset who wants to hoard all the goods then preach discipline to everybody else? There is human nature, and then there’s somebody’s “nature” where all of his behavior stem from… Operating from a place of lack lowers your IQ.
Now these lefties are silent on Iran. I wonder, what if Biden or Obama were the ones who ordered the attacks, would they still complain? They just don’t like Trump? Or it’s the lefties support anyone who is anti-US, even if these anti-US guys (like Maduro) are actually fascist? I’ll be writing about this anti-fascist propaganda point and how dumb it is. I’ll also be USA all the way, I love western values and culture, because these make the world better than backward cultures.
They’re likely silent because they placed all their woke bets on defending Gaza and the Palestinian “cause” — which means being friends with the Iran Islamic Regime because it is the enemy of Israel.
This illustrates just how incoherent and unsound the ideological framework of wokedom and leftists is.
