Most Filipinos don’t realize the country is drifting into becoming a failed state. Corruption is perpetrated out in the open and perpetrated by lawmakers and government officials. We borrow to finance corruption which is estimated at 40% of the budget. That is the amount lost.
The new blood entering politics are the scions of political dynasties. They are the new hacenderos and, together with the oligarchs, control the political and economic environment of the country. In truth and in fact, corruption is the norm with them. It is a way of life. How then can we produce leaders with vision and genuine patriotism?
The leftist-liberal bourgeoisie presume to label themselves “the good”. Yet they are themselves part of the problem. The experiment with a Marcos comeback has failed miserably. Former President Rodrigo Duterte did well enough for six years. You can’t dismantle a broken system in one term. Not when you have to contend with the bureaucracy, the oligarchs and the political dynasties. Duterte’s leadership moderated the greed unlike what we’ve seen with the 2023 to the 2025 budget and what’s been proposed for 2026. This is why the disenchanted is up to 36%. This will grow more in the next three years.

2028 is a landmark election cycle. We will see if the Filipino voter has improved enough to make it about leaders who are qualified and competent as opposed to those who are in it for the theft of public funds and enriching themselves in power.
Realistically there isn’t much hope for the Philippines. We have wasted every opportunity that had come our way. What we need is a benevolent dictatorship or a pseudo-democracy like what Singapore and Vietnam have to fix the broken system. One apologist has even co-opted Apo Lakay’s a revolution from the center. Someone tell her that she doesn’t have the intellectual depth for that kind of mental exercise. She might break her brain in the process. Good luck to us, I guess. Our idea of success is putting one over our countrymen. Crab mentality. Just look at how many of the true patriots have been murdered by the false patriots.
The president with the best approval and trust ratings is now in detention at the Hague for doing what he promised Filipinos he would do, which is why he won the presidency. This isn’t ironic. It’s outright moronic. It shows what political rivals will go to to destroy their perceived enemies but the elected and appointed officials who steal billions and even trillions of pesos in public funds are still alive and avoid jail time.
The rallies over the weekend won’t achieve anything. They’re just for show. Nowadays it’s all about optics. Unfortunately optics doesn’t do much for a country that’s back to being the sick man of Asia and is basically on its way to becoming a failed state because it’s run like hell by its own citizens.
