Transhumanism is popular among some “intellectuals” today and is fronted as the way forward, the hope of humanity. It is defined as the belief that humanity can transcend its natural limitations and become a higher form of being. Higher, not as in crossing over into the spiritual world, but more like physically superhuman. Expected attributes may include immortality, complete freedom from disease, and even the ability to procreate without sex and so allow sex to be enjoyed without any risk of having children. Of course, its proponents want us to believe that it’s a good thing – though I disagree.
What’s wrong? Those expected benefits are noble goals! Don’t you want people to be free of disease, have complete comfort and pleasure without the consequences, have no pain, and all that? You have hatred in your heart, you’re a bigot, despot, right-winger, and all that for opposing Transhumanism! – go the Woke supporters.
However, many have been criticizing Transhumanism for actually being something other than what it promotes itself to be. Those noble goals may actually be empty promises, and Transhumanism may turn out to be a significant threat to humanity.

Videos I’ve watched recently connect Transhumanism to Marxism, and linked movements like New Age, Theosophy, esoteric thought, Gnosticism, Nietzschean thought, the transgender and sex-change proponents, and even modern pagan movements. James Lindsay of New Discourses mentioned organizations like the Fetzer Institute, the World Economic Forum, and various business interests as among connected groups working in the background. I also featured earlier a Carl Teichrib interview by the late Michael S. Heiser about the real New World Order; part of the series is a discussion about Transhumanism.
The Eugenics Legacy
But onto what makes Transhumanism bad: it is a continuation of Eugenics, defined as the use of selective breeding to improve the human race. However, the idea of selective breeding means dehumanization and treating people like cattle. For example, selective breeding will mean forced unions or copulation to try and come up with superior offspring; partners will be chosen for people, similar to arranged marriages. That in turn means deprivation of human rights.
Belief in selective breeding also implied the idea that some people are inferior and must be excluded from the gene pool. This leads to one consequence of belief in breeding a “pure” race or better stock: elimination of any inferior people to ensure no “accidental pollution” of the bloodline. It will eventually lead to murder. This is also scientific racism, which was one of the more used justifications for slavery, imperialism, and extermination. This and other beliefs (like Theosophy) were the justification for Nazi extermination of Jews; the Nazis were practicing Eugenics.
Eugenics was also conceived during the infancy of modern science and many discoveries about biology that are common knowledge today were not known yet. This led to a Dunning-Kruger effect wherein Eugenicists made up ideas that they pushed as absolute but actually have little support. One could argue that it also reflected the political ideals and motives of the times.
Recently, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. announced plans to create a state registry of people with autism. This enraged people not just because of data privacy issues over the planned collection of private data of people with autism, but also that the creation of a registry itself is compared to creation of a registry of Jews by the Nazis. The critics’ impression is that the real purpose for creating such a registry is not to help, but to kill or marginalize people. The HHS has since changed the statement, saying that it will instead conduct a large-scale autism research program, which I agree is better. This issue demonstrates how looming the shadow of Eugenics is on today’s world.
Woke and Transhumanism
Some will try to debunk the connection between Woke ideology and transhumanism. However, I connect the two because both carry the similar premise that reality is imperfect and has to be changed; anyone who “defends” reality is considered an oppressor. Another is that the transgender movement is considered an experiment ground for Transhumanism. The companies that introduce puberty blockers, recommend sex change operations, and cater to young people’s gender dysphoria rather than solve them, are putting Transhumanism into practice. The patients, young people who suffer gender dysphoria, are more likely than others to hold “Woke” beliefs.
Plus, Transhumanism is led mostly by business people similar to the one who thinks users will love having rent levied for using a computer mouse. Numerous theories (no longer the ‘conspiracy’ type) abound that the business elite, or “technocrats” as I called them in an earlier article, are the real “woke” and seek to reduce ordinary people’s freedoms and make them forced buyers of their products.
The poorer “woke” mentioned earlier, who suffer gender dysphoria and are actually being manipulated into spending for the sex change treatments, think they are more aware of social issues than others. This comes with the inclination to consider anyone with different ideas as liars or despots. It’s a false sense of superiority. They riot in the streets or join insurgencies against those “unaware of social issues,” thinking they are fixing the world, but they are actually being manipulated to destroy it – probably to help the “real woke” take over and rule the world.
Will Transhumanists “do better?”
Transhumanists will claim that they will not be like Eugenicists and distance themselves from that movement. However, their goals and basic premises are still similar. The act of trying to come up with superior material will still involve throwing out the “trash.” And, there’s still the fact that what they seek to achieve is superhuman or above natural laws. In other words, they are after something that can be considered fantasy.
Another point is that Transhumanism is actually anti-Christian in nature. Some Christians openly support Transhumanism assuming that it is in line with the faith, proof-texting scriptures like “Put on the New Man” and “we will be transformed” as Transhumanist messages. However, those are wrong interpretations, as the verses are about changes in attitude and spiritual allegiance. Transhumanism actually aims to make humanity into God.
Christianity grounds us on the idea that we cannot alter nature and that a Superior Force rules over us. Transhumanism is against this, quietly pushing that humanity should not submit to any deity, but instead replace him. This also agrees with the premise of Gnosticism, which states that God is an evil being for creating physical reality. Tranhumanism’s desired transformations are likely be derived from Gnostic beliefs that one can achieve higher states of being or consciousness on their own effort.
Also implied by the idea of superior quality humans is that of the superior deserving to rule over the inferior. This implies that Transhumanism is just another attempt at taking power and trying to be dictators over others. Have you ever watched series where a despotic scientist or leader took control of a society or the world and held it hostage after monopolizing the solution to a problem? That will happen with Transhumanism.
Perhaps one of the best criticisms of Transhumanism is by the late Bible scholar Michael S. Heiser, who said that you dehumanize yourself by seeking to transcend humanity. Seeking to evolve to a higher form implies that you hate your humanity. It is not the critics of Transhumanism who are anti-human but Transhumanism itself.
Dire Wolf and Cyclops?
Perhaps a related tangent is how a genetics company claims that it resurrected the dire wolf. Some however have pointed out that it is not a real dire wolf, just a genetic product that they slapped the “dire wolf” label on. It’s not transhumanism, but it likely applies the same science of genetic manipulation intended for humans. If we really can’t manipulate genes as successfully as we want, I would be happy with it so that I don’t get turned into something like Leela from Futurama.

The dire wolf attempt is part of efforts to resurrect lost species. But it’s worth asking, do we need to do it? Should be mess with the environment just to bend it to our will? Or is it to our detriment? Perhaps the Jurassic Park movie series had a point in showing how tampering with nature backfires on humanity.
There are many other impacts of human efforts to “improve” the environment or the human genetic makeup that can lead to unintended consequences. Like this video where divers “trained sharks to save the ocean,” but it backfired. Another is tree planting projects; we have the impression that planting trees is always good. However, many articles and videos show that planting the wrong tree in a certain environment can actually kill or prevent other wildlife from thriving. It turns out tree planting has to be carefully planned and tempered to be effective. There are more examples demonstrating that human intervention in nature might actually do more harm than good. Imagine those levels of mistakes applied to humans… oh, wait, there’s the transgender movement already.
Science fiction and comics have examples of genetic experiments gone haywire. For example, the Spider Man villain Lizard started as a genetic experiment to transfer the regeneration capabilities of lizards to humans. That backfired and turned the scientist into a savage reptilian monster. Real life examples include a Japanese experiment that gene-edited bacteria to produce a food supplement. However, that product turned out to be toxic. I expect Transhumanist experiments to have similar side effects. This is why many are suspicious of Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) crops, although I would accept it if GMO has been thoroughly tested and found to have no deleterious effects.
Another is where Chinese scientist He Jiankui edited the genes of two girls in an experiment to make humans HIV-resistant. He was imprisoned as his experiment was considered unethical. While no news of side effects or experiment failure on the children were reported yet, it’s best to keep an eye out for such a thing.
Conclusion
I oppose Transhumanism because it may actually be a big lie. As I see it, none of the promises, such as complete freedom from disease and pleasure without the consequences, are realistically achievable. You can’t score people for “blocking” something that isn’t even assured.
But the big question you may throw is: what if it works? I have heard of genetic therapy to improve the sight of children with a rare blindness condition (this seems conducted within legal bounds, unlike the twins experiment). I deem it acceptable if some genetic projects safely address specific conditions without any ideological goal added. If a tremendous change in biological nature is achieved, like a lifespan of 200 years or a disease is totally eliminated, that would be a lucky break. However, I doubt such incredible modification would be achieved as I believe reality has safeguards to prevent or resist such alteration.
Since this site is titled the Get Real Post, this article is about getting real – keeping with reality. Transhumanism carries an attitude of opposition to reality and is pushing for alterations to humanity that may endanger human life and dignity rather than improve them. Getting real means being cautious of Transhumanism, accepting our natural limitations, and respecting reality.
A fitting closure for this article is the quote by Ken Watanabe’s Dr. Serizawa from the 2014 Godzilla movie: “The arrogance of men is thinking nature is in our control and not the other way around.”
I believe, as my cohorts here do, that what Filipinos embrace as their culture is what actually pulls the country down. And those who seem to be anti-dictators, who may also believe themselves to be “heroes,” are the real dictators.
