BREAKING COMMENTARY

Metro Manila is at a virtual standstill practically EVERYDAY thanks to congestion and traffic gridlock.

This is the accumulated outcome of DECADES of negligence and short-term mediocre thinking amongst city bureaucrats and national governments.

A big chunk of the problem has to do with privately-run public utility vehicles which employ thousands of Filipinos and are, as such, vast voter plantations that politicians cultivate and harvest every election year.

The problem of traffic congestion requires difficult but obvious solutions to be implemented and the political will to see these solutions through.

BREAKING COMMENTARY

It’s been several decades since the “Martial Law Era” ended. Yet the Philippines’ political discourse remains anchored in rhetoric surrounding it.

Rather than apply a prospective approach to the national “debate”, the country’s foremost “thought leaders” remain trapped in fear mongering around the bizarre notion that the Philippines could slide into “tyranny” as easily as it supposedly did back in 1972.

These constant “reminders” insult Philippine democracy and the intelligence of Filipinos by creating a collective conversation defined by fear rather than promise and aspiration.
