Do Filipino Islamic terrorists deserve to be treated as equals by the Philippine government?

Let’s put it this way. Everybody has grievances to air with the Philippines’ “Central Government”. Whether it be unfair traffic fines, lack of water, parasites squatting on your land, heck, even billions in public funds being spent wantonly via un-auditable channels, everyone has one beef or another to take up with the government. More often than not, these grievances fall on deaf ears or get buried under piles of legal documents and bureaucratic processes. In the vast majority of cases, nothing gets resolved — which is why the Philippines is what it is: a hopelessly backward Third World basket case.

bangsamoro_basic_lawFor most of the unresolved big-ticket grievances, there are more than enough ways to justify possibly violent “extra-judicial” action; armed revolt, in other words. Indeed, many have argued that in most normal societies, the sorts of astoundingly audacious criminal activity like pork barrel thievery, top-level corruption, gross negligence and incompetence, and outright lying we observe in the Philippines’ top leaders and representatives should have resulted in a mass call-to-arms by now.

Fortunately for the powers-that-be, Filipinos simply lack the DNA to muster the killer instincts needed to mount such revolts. Whatever was left of it was Yellow-washed in 1986 after the “peaceful” revolution that Filipinos were made to believe would serve as the pre-eminent template for dissent that would keep future Philippine governments honest. And the traditional drumbeaters of revolution — Filipino commies — have all but squandered the brand equity of their tired old hammer-and-sickle flag.

Not Islamic terrorists, however. They remain resolute in their claim to the grievance-to-end-all-grievances in the Philippines — their “right” to self-government. They’ve all but convinced Philippine society that their grievances trump all the rest. Why do they trump all the rest? Simple. Because they are the only organised group outside of criminal mobs that the Philippine “Central Government” sits down to negotiate with as equals.

Kawawa naman tayong mga law-abiding citizens.

We the good citizens of the Philippines are frustrated enough helplessly standing by while our lands are colonised by “informal settlers” coddled by the very government officials on our payroll. Now we also have to watch with horror as terrorists who, we are told, have “legitimate grievances” demanding to be addressed, meanwhile roam the countryside with impunity savagely mowing down and hacking to pieces our police officers.

Where is the justice?

Will I get a seat at a negotiating table with the President if I punch a police officer in the face because I believed he issued me a traffic ticket unfairly? Not likely — not even if I go around stomping my feet in an epic tantrum claiming that this unfair traffic ticket is a legitimate grievance.

Perhaps a bit of road rage here and there feeds the odd viral video frenzy and subsequent occasional media circus it kicks up. But the point is that considering the reality that ALL Filipino citizens have their “grievances” not all of us kill people and justify that by citing the frustration we feel over these personal grievances.

Should the Philippine government take into consideration the “grievances” of a community who, presumably, are represented wholesale by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)? Sure, why not? But does the existence of such grievances presumably worthy of consideration be made out to be license to engage in criminal activity? Absolutely not.

When Pope Francis visited the Philippines in January 2015, Filipinos were euphoric that the pope would grace the shores of the biggest predominantly Catholic country in Asia.

Predominantly Catholic.

The interests of Filipino Muslims are presumably encompassingly represented by the MILF — which, one would think, is why the Philippines’ “Central Government” extended a seat to their “leadership” in a project that regarded them as a stakeholder — well, no, more like an esteemed partner in a partnership of equals — in a deal that would “benefit” ALL of Filipino Islamdom.

Even overlooking the fact that Muslims represent a small minority of Filipinos (a fact that the nation’s top talking heads and “thought leaders” exuberantly rubbed in at the height of papal mania in January), that would still be quite an unfounded privilege bestowed upon a group of criminal bandits by a “Central Government”.

The conclusion here seems quite evident: make enough noise and kill enough people over a long enough period and you get rewarded with a trip to Japan to meet the Philippine president to carve out peace in Mindanao.

Or should that be “a little piece of Mindanao”?

That’s Philippine-style justice. Then again, most Filipinos already know that.

  1. have you ever considered if Philippines was protected by sharia law, alot of the problems you have would all be gone?

Have you ever thought there “terrorists” have a vision for the land and the people and want to take them in a new direction?

oh pinoys do not think the muslim are weak if you you shoot one bullet at us we will shoot one rocket at you.

A prayer for all my brothers

    Allah is my Lord,
    Islam is my Life,
    Al-Quran is my guide,
    The Sunnah is my practise,
    Jihad is my spirit,
    Righteousness is my character,
    Paradise is my goal,
I will enjoin that which is right,
    Forbid that which is wrong,
    Fight against oppression,
AND WILL DIE TO ESTABLISH ISLAM….
    Inshallah

    Jibs

    1. Question? You and your ‘guide’ get to decide which is righteous and which is wrong?and on those grounds forbid all else, huh?
is that the deal? HHHMMM….let me think, for a second:

      No thanks, I’ll pass.

Will you be surprised,As you try to spread that ‘philosophy’, at the amount of resistance you encounter?

ever think about joining the secular 21st century world? where tolerance of others and their beliefs are respected?

btw,did you know? Islam is already established so you don’t have to die to do that.

    2. @ Dib

When the country of Norway started deporting Muslims in 2014 crime in Norway dropped 30%, garbage collection dropped 50% and overall feeling of security improved. In London and Paris garbage and other environmental problems are high where there are Muslims.

We all know Muslims are ignorant, Muslims are ill prepared to face the task of modern society, no social skills, no job skills training…nothing they can be proud of but their parasitic lifestyle and fucking sharia shit.

  2. Yes, what a shambolic state of affairs. Bargaining with terrorists that kill police-officers and get away with it.
the douchbaggerry of the people who run that sham of a state should be ashamed of themselves. But unlike most Filipino’s these douchbags do not care about ‘loss of face’ and have no shame what-so-ever.Mind-numbing ignorance is the name of the game when it comes to the population that would put up with such shit.It is a staggerring reality that such circumstances exist when the Republic of the Philippines is first
encountered, really hard to believe. But once understood, a quick read btw,it is easy to see that the country is run by a criminal syndicate that will deal with others only when those others are strong enough to show a forceful enough presence to demand being dealt with.
Whether or not it is deserved is not so much the question as is why are they recognized as such an equal to begin with?

  3. The MILF’s long-term goal is an independent Islamic State in Mindanao and only the gov’t can grant that. The MILF should approach the gov’t in negotiation not the other way around. If two sides are in conflict, the first side who initiates negotiation is the loser and that’s what the gov’t is doing.

  4. Er, civilized people having good education and ethical values would surely want to agree and work on something without resorting on violence. The problem is having a dialogue with the government leader involved on all the other grievances is no longer in the agenda. Left to their own devices, our government leaders would only present a short-term solution to the problem and would only look at the matter of the most recent concern. We also know that they are defensive to criticisms and their common practice is to lend a deaf ear to criticisms, petitions and organized rallies. Unless their rating in performance polls fall, they would continue on pursuing what’s in their priorities. There should also be an educated go-between amongst the government/opportunist and the ordinary people (especially the poor and uneducated ones) which main interest is to arrive to resolution on the masses’ concern. Like those under contractualization (mostly factory workers who are college undergrads and highschool graduates), it’ll be hard for them to fight for their right for regularization not knowing the due process and on whom to air their concern add the fact the fear that they might lose the source of their livelihood that supports their family. But if there’s someone from the upper society (maybe those authoritative or influential ones) who could guide them to win their cause and stand for them, at least they’d be encouraged. I’ve read from another comment that poor Muslims would continue to join the rebel group and that could be because it’s the only party open to them to relieve their “misfortunes”. I guess what I’m saying is, people should start looking at themselves as the main player in the change they want to see in their society and having the guts of MILF (not the irresponsible actions), they should have an exchange of dialogue with the government officials involved about their concerns.

As to the main topic, hehe, I guess there’s more to that than what meets the eye that’s why our state leaders would want to give in to their demands otherwise as sure as the rest of the country sees the rebels in their true form those big guys would, too.

  5. “Do Filipino Islamic terrorists deserve to be treated as equals by the Philippine government?”

Nope, of course not. but the thing is do we have the right to subject the Filipino people to further civil strife? Can you vouch for every single person who will die from now on if a full blown armed conflict takes effect? Especially now that a concern party is willing to talk?

In a true blue and perfect world the rebels are squashed and the government wins and all are happy (well majority are). Unfortunately that was not the case in our own country.

As much as I would like to just eradicate all of them and be done with it, Our government and past governments did not have the capacity to accomplish just that. What guarantee do we have, that we will succeed in the next 10 or 20 years?

The advent of ISIS is really a game changer here, if for instance all the insurgents became radicals because we decline them the opportunity to negotiate, then what now, are we confident enough that they won’t be able to take a part Mindanao as their own anyway? Can you be sure that radicalism won’t spill over to the other region of the Philippines? At this point in time I think its much better to get the moderates to our side so we have the leverage against the more “radical” Muslims.

So what about in the future, if a terrorist group just so happen to try it again? Then in that case I sincerely hope our government has the capacity to nip them in the bud before they spread or better yet solve the encompassing social-economic issue that just might lead to that. You know what the saying goes “Prevention is better than cure” that way we don’t have to negotiate with terrorist anymore.

The bottom line is that the world is full of compromises, and I would definitely think that its better to compromise when we still have the upper hand and place all the necessary safeguards and monitoring now than later when all hell breaks lose (Radicals bombing cities).

    1. The chink to your solution is that ‘in-between’ demographic you’re talking about is all over the world, toiling blood and tears just to keep their own families afloat. The OFW system is honestly the perfect deterrent into preventing a disgruntled, educated middle class to unite together with the poor to oust the status quo a la French Revolution. Which leaves the upper echelon of society whom are quickly absorbed into the Politico’s social circle. Even the Communists in the PH are starting to drop their principles in favor of currying woth the government.

Ika nga “spare the rod, spoil the child” Maaring pambata at walang sense ang kasabihan iyon pero malay mo magwork diba.

        1. Of course not — we cannot let ISIS establish a secure ideological foothold here. One way to ensure that is by peace agreements side by side with the encouragement of further development of Mindanao’s workforce and natural resources. Both are hard, and will take time and the conviction that peace will bring changes unheard of and unseen.

And none of us want to commit to anything hard, here’s something “easy”: killing every single Muslim as public policy. No more angsting minority, no more obtruding non-Christian viewpoints.

(And lest some future scholar should be dense enough to take this second option seriously: I’m a peacenik. I don’t want genocide. Blah blah blah.)

        2. Fuck that hippy bullcrap. The government’s policy towards this should be something like Vladimir Putin’s. For all his faults, he had it right when he said his nation would not bemd over to appease minorities. What, the PH is going to lose what little credibility it has by legitimizing aggressors to do what they want? Please.

        3. Popular insurgencies can be suppressed permanently, but only at great cost, in men, resources, and self-image, to whatever country is doing the suppressing. And — deny it if you must, dour mack — lawless as these elements are, they have a measure of popular support among those dicked over by peoples past and present.

If you want the blood of terrorists and of those who sympathize but aren’t involved otherwise, then waging war is the best way to get plenty of the stuff. I’m sure you’ll like it — if you’d stoop to Nazis you’d stoop to anything to get the peace that you and only you want.

  7. Appeasement of any insurgent never works. The MILF has a political/religious ideology. Much like the Pre-World War II Japanese ideology. Every Japanese wanted to die for their Emperor Hirohito. The Emperor of Japan was believed as a “Living God”. So, they can become “Martyrs”, and admired always in Japanese society, if they die a martyr’s death.

So, the “Kamikaze” (Divine Wind) Pilots, became human bombs, against those U.S. warships…and Japanese infantry made Kamikaze assaults on the U.S. Marines…death to them was glorious…

It is the same political/religious ideology, the world is fighting now. Only, the God is Allah…

I say it again: if religion is mixed with politics…it is a very potent “Witch Brew”…

    1. I say it again: if religion is mixed with politics…it is a very potent “Witch Brew”…
      ========
Religion is politics only in a different pulpit.

  8. I don’t mind any group worth its salt to be treated equally by the gov’t. so long as it is in our own terms. I say that because our gov’t. is the only establish institution that has authority over all parts of the country.

One example of the danger of treating the enemy as equal was the recent PNP killings in Mindanao.

How come the MILF has the gall to talk and negotiate with us when it cannot even exercise authority in an area supposed to be under their control? Granting that the PNP operatives unexpectedly ended up in their backyard, why would they resort to “misencounter” and waste lives on both sides when they have the capacity to step back and determine and confirm through official channels of communication if whether or not the gov’t is doing a sinister act behind their back?

That unfortunate event is just one proof that the MILF do not deserved to be treated equal not because we don’t want to but because they cannot be trusted to uphold their part as equal partner.

Let’s call it for what it is, in Tagalog, MGA TRAYDOR, plain and simple.

  9. Here’s an enlightening view on the Mindanao problem and the perceived need for the Bangsamoro Basic Law from Philip Asperga, a Muslim who was born and has lived in Mindanao all his life. Please read so we’d all be enlightened about the problem amidst the din of clashing voices regarding the “need to pass the BBL”:

    1. SUSUKO ANG MILF at LAHAT NG TERORISTA NG WALANG KAPALIT (UNCONDTIONAL SURRENDER.
    2. KUNG LALAYAS SA PILIPINAS ANG MILF AT LAHAT NG AYAW SA SUMUNOD SA UMIIRAL NA BATAS SA PILIPINAS.
ALL OUT JUSTICE FOR ALL THE VICTIMS OF MILF TERRORISM!
ALL OUT JUSTICE FOR THE GALLANT SAF 44!
    NO TO BBL!

    1. Yan ang comment. Fantastic, superb, this is a MUST READ comment right there. Thank you a million times for this. Salamat at salamat pa rin. Gracias, domo arigato, kamsa hamnida, obregado, xie xie ni, selamat datang, salamat.

  10. the longer i live in the philippines the more prophetic i see these words:

Take up the White Man’s burden, The savage wars of peace–
    Fill full the mouth of Famine And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly Bring all your hopes to nought.

just like africa, when all the colonists left or were kicked out the country went to the dogs. why does the philippines even pretend to be a modern western country? it is not. it has the disguise of being one though. from all the technology and fast food and republicanism one would think that the philippines is like a little usa. you would be wrong. no egalitarianism, no expectation of all abiding by the law no matter station in life, no rugged individualism, no spirit of “give me liberty or give me death.” the filipino is content to stew in his ignorance while the fat cats in manila eat him alive and lead his country further and further into the sewer by stealing public funds and negotiating with terrorists. not only this but the corruption is endemic and starts with the barangay captains and permeates every level of government and leaks over into the citizenry so that you have an entire nation of corrupt bribe-taking, lawless heathens. (drivers won’t even turn on their headlights at night!!)

the only solution is armed revolt headed by a strong leader with an iron will who will whip this country into shape. the philippines needs a hitler, stalin, lenin, napoleon, cromwell, or bismarck. they need the will to power. sadly this will never happen. sadly the philippines will continue to be a place full of happy (i.e. blissfully ignorant in their poverty) people.

    1. This this this and truly this. The Philippines tried democracy and it led to this sad farce that does not satisfy anyone beyond a gated community in a posh neighborhood. Forget being like America. If the Philippines has to become Nazi Germany to gain honor, respect and prosperity for its people, then so be it.

      1. So you want a fucked-up bigoted narcissist to represent us? Owait — since we’re doing away with representative democracy, then he’s representing himself and himself only.

But how does a man of blood and iron gain honor, respect, and prosperity for the people he doesn’t represent? Simple enough — by his very vileness he forfeits the respect of every one who must make deals with him; by his very vileness he thinks that his words his thoughts his actions are superior to everyone else’s; by his very vileness he dumps on promises of widespread prosperity through international scorn and condemnation.

So the only way for such a repellent dick to govern is through fear, through duplicity, and through war. Obviously Nazi Germany prospered — obviously Nazi Germany won the war of the worlds — obviously Nazi Germany stands before us as a model for all nations that deep down detest the fact that people must live with and love each other or die.

Obviously Nazi Germany, in its quest for honor, for respect, for prosperity — it got nothing but the short end of the stick.

And yet you say we have to become Nazi Germany (or at least something approaching it in all its delusions of grandeur and hatred) to gain all the things you say we sorely need.

        No shit.

  11. Terrorism will never cease in a country where the so-called leaders are criminals and terrorists in disguise.

And that’s the one and only FAILIPPINES!!!

In the United Nations the mighty or lowly nation have only one vote. Negotiations are between and among equals.

The Filipino Islamist terrorist is not a legitimate entity therefore the Philippine government must not negotiate with them. This is where all Philippine presidents failed because they did not recognize the fact that this issue is not against the Muslims as a people, but it is about the cause that the Muslims represent and that is to separate a nation.

By natural law every individual has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit to happiness. The government supports that. But do the Muslim terrorist have an inalienable right to demand to partition a nation based on what they claim as ancestral land? The answer is no because a Philippine president does not have the right to give away what belongs to the Republic.

With that said, @ benignO, I think you and I should run for president and send all these fools to solitary confinement. LOL !!!
