Hipsters threaten to kill artists who perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration

The irony seems to escape the community of America’s coastal hipster cliques. Jeering the coming inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump has become some sort of fashion statement among the trendy set nowadays. But where does one draw the line?

Dream Girls star Jennifer Holliday who initially agreed to sing at the event backed out after reportedly receiving death threats against her family and “heat” being applied to her by the LGBT community.

A rep for Holliday told TMZ Monday … both the death threats and the LGBT reaction were factors in her decision.

The rep tells us, “It was all of those things. She wasn’t scared to perform. She didn’t want to put her family at risk based on the death threats and she also didn’t want to offend the LGBT community which was especially upset that a past ally would perform on a program with President-Elect Donald Trump.”

The ferocious attacks against artists who had planned to perform during Trump’s inaugural did not spare even blind tenor Andrea Bocelli who also reportedly received threats against his life. The threats came after Bocelli initially decided to “press ahead” with his performance at the event following threats from his fans to boycott his concerts.

Presumably, people who issued threats against these performers interpret their performing at the Trump inaugural as necessarily symbolising their support for the incoming president. This sentiment was captured by The Daily Beast columnist Dean Obeidallah in his article Celebrities are right to skip Trump inauguration festivities published by CNN

As of now, none of the big name A-list celebrities are biting. And that’s a great thing.

Celebrities shouldn’t lend their fame to normalize or validate Trump’s history of racism, bigotry and sexism. And by being a part of his inauguration they would be doing just that.

It reminds us of a familiar schoolyard taunt.

Don’t hangout with Cooper the Loser lest you be also labelled a Loser.

Goes to show people don’t really graduate from the schoolyard and, instead, become akin to — or even worse — than the people they demonise.

    1. yup, and this is the main menu for the breakfast according to the late Philippine Senate & Asian Iron Lady, Miriam Defensor Santiago.

    2. The Cato institute once mentioned a similar phenomenon, a logical conclusion to the Heckler’s Veto called the Assassin’s Veto.

Unfortunately, I’m on mobile, so I can’t be assed to look for said article.
